Having Heimdall’s power would definitely be a nightmare. I’m pretty sure it would make anyone a cynic and bitter to the world

To be fair Heimdall is everything we wished to be as a child, reading people minds, being hitless and fast, magic powers with cool eyes and looks, slowing time and etc lol

I freaking love what they did to the gods. They're just like people, some are assholes and some are truly good and decent.

There is a dialogue when Atreus finally decides to be honest with Odin and not betray him anymore, where Heimdall sees this and is surprised. But instead of thanking Atreus for changing his mind about betraying Odin, he just berates him saying "you dont know what you want anymore" or something along the lines. Then he explains to Atreus why he is the way he is. He sees everyone's true intentions. He sees their real motives. He is tired and disgusted by it.

They modeled Baldur after a drunkard from my neighborhood

Hell, hearing this, no wonder they were the way they were. One couldn't feel anything. Even the loving warmth of his mother. While the other just hated everyone cause he could see through them with no filter, no mask just straight into their very core. Seeing how corrupt and what their true intentions are without an ounce of guilt trying to deceive them. Heimdall's has to be worse, though. Both on different sides of the same coin. One feels everything, while the other feels nothing. Scary

Once I heard that dialogue for the first time from Heimdall that said some about seeing cities burning and Eric saying that Heimdall isn’t making that up, I immediately thought about Kratos burning a village with his Spartan Army.

I like the take of the directors. They didnt made baldur a person who enjoys to have the ability to not feel pain but depressed as well as they did make Heimdall bitter

Funny thing is, Heimdall is great and friendly in Norse mythology itself

The last line hit different especially when you remember Atreus was ready to force surtur into becoming Ragnarok even kratos questioned his actions
Edit : I'm famous thank you everyone

Being able to know what peoples’ next moves where also probably played a role in how arrogant and cocky he is. He really can do whatever he wants to anyone and there’s nothing anyone can do about it, with exceptions to Odin, Thor and Kratos. Heimdall is literally untouchable.

Heimdall really needed the uncle Ben talk

I feel kind of dumb for not thinking about that before. Heimdall's mind reading ability probably did push him into becoming... How he was, we'll say. He has an unrestricted view of what everyone around him is thinking all the time, it makes so much more sense when I think about it that way

I had a hand injury. And I lost feeling across the palm of my hand. That feeling of strength, gripping something like a knife or the handle of a blade, or steering wheel of the car. All of those sensations were gone or completely changed from how they were. I really resonated with baldur. Because if it was more than that it would have really changed me more than I already have

The thing is, Heimdall isn't a dick at its core. Odin puts it's best, his perception gets the better of him. Imagine you already know everything that's going to happen in the near future. You know almost every outcome before it happens. You already know how to do the smallest amount of effort to complete your objectives. Just see how he controls his pet.

Second thing, you also know with how much shit you can get away. And having this power basically allows you to get away with everything. An entire life where you always escape repercussions because you know exactly where is the line, and you learn to bend the line little by little. It gives you the illusion of intangibility and makes you arrogant. And you end up being a dick to everyone, because it makes you feel superior to everyone.

What i don't get is why Heimdall still respects Odin. Because Odin lacks this kind of foresight, and unless he can masks himself to the point Heimdall can't see what he intends to do, it would only be natural for Heimdall to even betray Odin out of arrogance.

The second thing would be be power. Heimdall did have moments where he realized he can't fight Thor (when Thor defended Atreus) and he can't ride a dragon (he's not immortal like Baldur). So probably, he knew he couldn't defeat Odin, and his best moves was to follow Odin's interests (but not his orders) like a zealot. That's why he kind of fucked up.

So yeah, Heimdall could be a dick at his core, although it's impossible to determine, but his power would make anyone a dick with enough time.

Everyone at some point has looked someone in the eyes and thought the most rude or evil thoughts but keep it to themselves. The fact heimdall can see that through someone justifies his attitude in my opinion.

Heimdall being able to read minds makes his encounter with Thor that much scarier.

"You look me in the eyes... You tell me..."

I completely understand why Heimdall is how he is. Being able to literally see how selfish and just horrible everyone is. He's just done.
