This definitely helps me as I have a 11×11 drawing paper and I'm using the rule of thirds in my drawing but I'm finding it very difficult to get equal squares. But are my eyes and mind playing tricks on me cuz I could swear that the bottom is just a tad bit more than the top

I'm sure this method is probably based on a geometric principle of some sort, but I just don't remember it exactly. It's a lot of fun though. 🙂.

just divided to 9.9 cm (only for A4 paper) if you aren't lazy lmao

Your method only works for square paper. What about rectangular paper? If the paper has weight as w and height as h, than the portion you take is actually (4h^2 - 3w^2)/(4h^2 - w^2) * h, and it happens to be 1/3 * h when w = h (square).
