Thanks again to the ever generous Adam for loaning me his brand new PADI Monster. I've had a look at a couple of Monsters now, and the model is definitely maturing with age! A couple of grey hairs perhaps? It may be less in-your-face than some previous generations, but it still a bit too much for me. Cheers, Jody

I like this one. I also don't mind the cyclops as long as it actually magnifies and is positioned correctly over the date to help my 65 year old eyes. This particular example looked very nice to me. Great review as always. Thanks!

Because of lockdown, the only watch is a day date.
No point a GMT, not going anywhere, no point dress watch, if you're at home,
No point a watch without a day date.
So let's have a review of the best 10 day dates !

Other PADI Seikos put a lot of effort into their dials, waves, waffles etc. it’s a real shame that they didn’t do that on this one.

in my humble opinion . Gen 2 Monsters are the BEST (considering specs, price, looks etc.) especially the ORANGE GEN 2 Monster 309

The bezel is coated with a titanium carbide mixture, totally scratch resistance.

I like this new monster. It's really handsome and more refined if you take the time to let it grow on you. It's much more wearable on a daily basis compared to the earlier generations.

Once upon a time he was the king of the poor man's watch and we did not mind that he had his subjects because he had $ 200. Now he transformed into a fashionable watch with all these colors and double the price, no thanks Seiko, we love the old ones.

Not seen it mentioned on a review yet, but Seiko is the first analog watch I have had with day of the week, and I love ‘Sat’ is blue, and ‘Sun’ is red.
Makes the weekend special again.
Also never seen it mentioned that day is in two languages.
I nearly sent my first one back!!

That's a nice watch, but come on Seiko, Hardlex and a pressed clasp. The Chinese offer so much more. I think I will have a San Martin thanks

It looks like the cyclops is applied crookedly. I guess Seiko figured that, with a solid, engraved bezel and molded chapter ring mandating alignment, they had to have /something/ askew.

Lovely. I am a retired PADI Divemaster and I would love to have this watch BUT Dive Instructors and Divemasters do not make a lot of money. I think unless anyone is the entrepreneur owner of a Dive Center, most PADI members cannot afford this watch. Most PADI members wear a G-Shock, a Casio Duro or a Vostok Amphibian.

Gen II owner, Sea Monster. Losing the crown guards make it look slightly unbalanced and doesn't need that cheapo cyclops. But you can't but love those integrated case and bezel grooves. It's like nothing else and it wears soooo well.
Thanks Jody.

What is Seiko doing? Downgrading movements and finishes while increasing prices. Huge Turnoff.

Seiko. The only brand that downgrades the movements on new releases. 🙄

Those PADIs just look sooo tame for what is supposed to be a monster. I'd stick with the older gens

I love the Monster, in particular the most monsterish 2nd generation. I heard rumors that longislandwatch might release an upgraded (sapphire?) Monster hommage, i.e. better value for an even more attractive price. Maybe this will draw you in the pro-Monster camp, Jody :-)

I have 4 Mk1's. I'm really glad they've gone back to the rectangular markers. I love them on so no nonsense and tool like. The 'fang' markers always seemed a step back for me. They wear well though, monsters. Also with the stainless steel bezel no aluminium to scratch.

Milled clasp and it'd be perfect. Love the Cyclops.

I do like Seiko, as I own several and wear them regularly. 3 things I'd like to comment on. #1. The size; I really prefer my Seiko's in a 44-45 mm size or at the very least 43 mm. #2. I'm guessing the bezel is made of aluminum . Just take out your handy-dandy magnet and voila! #3. I know it's a polarizing topic but on this particular watch I do like the "candy bar" cyclops. It looks well centered and easy to read. Could be my "Old Guy" eye sight. Anyway, very nice video as always, take care, I'll see you in the next vid!

I absolutely love that watch. If I didn’t have the Seiko solar PADI coming soon, I would have added this one to my collection. Oh well, I already have more seiko divers than anyone should have.
