I've been living in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for 2 months now and I've gathered a consensus on what I think about this place. Every place has its pros and cons. I'm leaving and here is why. Let me know if you live here or have lived here and if you agree.

Obviously, you didn't read the news. Southeast Asia is having a heatwave. This temperature this year is not normal. Our cooler season is between Nov and January but it's rainy season.

I'm Malaysian, I've never got used to the heat and humidity even after almost 60 years. So, you are normal 😅

You’ve hit the nail on the head, bro. I live in Northern California, and I had this romantic notion of one day retiring in a peaceful Islamic country like Malaysia since I had heard so many good things about it. In the November December timeframe of 2012 I came to Kuala Lumpur for about two weeks to check it out. I loved everything about it. The people places cuisine culture, but just couldn’t believe how hot and humid it was even in December. I asked the locals if it’s cooler in summer like some sort of upside down weather pattern, but I was sadly disappointed to hear that that’s when the real summer hits in June through September. That quickly changed my mind about thinking of making Malaysia a second home for myself.
I thought I was just a little too weak living in humidity free cooler environment. It’s good to know. I’m not alone and I’m not crazy. 😅

November to December are definitely cooler. You happen to be here during the 2 hottest months of the year, April and May. Get a dehumidifier or turn on the AC in dry mode when at home.

ohh...i hate winter....being a Malaysian who'd been to Moscow for 6 years, the only drawback is the winter...it could last 4-6 months till the snow dried up...the temperature could reach -3 degrees where u couldnt be outside too long, bcause it is freezingly super cold...even when autumn or spring arrive, u still could feel the cold air which i simply could not tolerate for long...Hence why, im grateful to be Malaysian...Living in Malaysia is the best place anyone could experience ..i could also migrate for better wages, but i just simply love being in Malaysia for the reasons this video had mentioned above...

I liked hot rather than cold.. At least make me sweat and do a little exercise walking around burning fat.. Cold weather is always make me sick 🤒.. Nothing i can do during cold winter even cannot go out.. This is just my opinion ya. It's depend on individual perception.. Don't take it seriously or mad at me😁✌️.. Anyway enjoy your stay in Malaysia 🤗

For walking most locals only do that within say from 6 am to 11 am . After 11 am no more going out until it rains or near 6 pm you just stay in AC buildings for work or malls. Its a bit more lively after dark and also a lot cooler. I mean in public places the AC is free.

Reminds me of my arrival in Malaysia when stepping out of the air-conditioned Airport. Just felt like a hot rush of air passing by me and enveloping me at the same time. I was also exiting into a sort of bus terminus and thought it was the fumes of a bus driving past me and was still looking for this imaginary bus. That was about 25 years ago and hope to go back one day.

Gosh..Born, bred and still living in Malaysia yet I hate hate hate the weather. Especially sweating after a shower feels nasty. I don’t think I will ever get acclimatized to the weather 😅😅 It’s true, growing up it wasn’t this hot & humid. The weather had changed drastically for the worst past few years .

Agree about not being able to hang out outside comfortably. The humidity is the thing. It was much more drier and cooler when I was a kid in the early 70s in a town that is now a city with 1/2 mil people . The morning air was really cold and there was dew on the grass. Back then we had only 10 mil people now we have 33 mil. Put it down to population and industrialization. One has to be a real authentic enthusiast of trees, herbs, fruits etc that make our food and medicine to really love it here. Like I cant live well without the tropical fruits like pineapple, mangoes, the very many varieties of bananas and plantains, rambutans, mangosteens etc, etc. Goodluck and best wishes. Thank you for all the compliments that you have showered unto Msia.

I agree with you, I too could not stand the heat. i was there for three weeks, and could not wait to get away from the heat. I am a Malaysian and glad to be back in cold climate.

This is definitely a fair observation. I'm Malaysian, spent half my life in Sarawak and half in KL. Yes the people you spoke to are correct, it was a lot cooler when we were kids in the 80s & 90s. Also KL had a lot more trees. Many of the parks have either been reduced or removed completely, replaced by buildings. How we locals survive - in the city, we walk either in the mornings or evenings only, avoiding midday strolls. We do generally live with primarily live with the windows open and fans on. And lastly a lot of us who can't stand the heat, we will head to the islands, beaches, hills or mountains for cooler weather.
Remember that KL is also in the Klang Valley, meaning it's not just about the evergrowing concrete jungle, the heat is trapped in the valley surrounded by the hills.

2 months is a little too short a time to have a comprehensive look at any country, there are so many states, cultures as ways of living that keep us all here. 70% of the time, the temperature ain't bad at all. But like how winter countries can have harsh cold climate months, we have equally hot melting months too.

Anyways, hope the next time you drop by, stay a little longer. Come visit us Borneo side ❤

I'm Malaysian, and I can't stand the heat either. I believe most Malaysians are like me.
We have been used to being in air-conditioned spaces since time immemorial, and it's almost inconceivable for us to be without them;

Eat, Work, Play, Travel, Sleep in A/C.

(That is also the reason I don't go to Europe from June to September: the hotels there do not have A/Cs, and the ones that do, set the temperature at 24°C.)

In Malaysia, walking outside is only bearable before 10.00AM or after 6.30PM.

I hope you had a pleasant stay, and good luck with your travels.

We visited Malaysia in October and it rained in late afternoon almost every day, which helped with the heat. I agree with everything else that you mentioned about Malaysia including food, transportation, shopping, security, and modern amenities. Try it agin in a couple years and the heat might be more tolerable then. Too much construction/ many concrete buildings can cause the temperature in the city to stay high too. Thanks

I just returned from two beautiful neighbouring country and their hot weather is so much hot if not worst than in Kuala Lumpur its such a relief to be back, shaded trees are every where in KL in comparison to another city. Just walk into any air condition walkway, shops, shopping centres, offices, blocks restaurants, apartments, buildings, are everywhere. We in KL say we just cannot like the sun, sunshine and expect everything nice, cooling and warm...its not but the sun is hot. Many westerner wear the wrong cloths or garment materials in KL. Suits and thick T shirts wont work in sunny KL..
