This is Mendelssohn's 1st violin concerto. His violin concerto in e minor is his second concerto.

While most people know of "Mendelssohn's violin concerto" they mean, of course the concerto No 2 in e minor. He wrote this first one at the ripe old age of 12.

I am pretty sure the violinist who is playing is Jean Jacques Kantorow. I remember I used to listen to this recording a lot when I was a child. Unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the Orchestra, but the whole CD contains the following pieces: Locatelli - the Harmonic Labyrinth, Leclair - Concerto for violin and orchestra in F Major Op.7 No. 4, Mendelssohn - Concerto for violin and orchestra in D minor (no.1) - (composed in 1822 when Mendelssohn was 13), and the Devil's trill by Tartini (played  with orchestral accompaniment). Hopefully someone who also has the CD will find this recording here and will post the name of the Orchestra.

It’s only been 5 minutes but hearing this is making my heart race, thinking that if I practice long and hard enough I may play something like this one day

This piece, like his string symphonies, is sort of a student piece. He was studying with Carl Zelter at the time . Mendelssohn never published them in his lifetime. Unless you were invited to a private soiree at the Mendelssohn's house you probably didn't get to hear them when he was alive!

Don’t hear this concerto often these days, all I thought Mendelssohn has only one great concerto for violin in e minor, I was wrong 🤪thanks for posting

Thank you for sharing.  I know "informed" music-lovers who do not realize that this concerto exists.

it sounds like baroque music without continuo

This sounds like a cross between Paganini and Bach.

Mozart would have cried to have written such music as this. To have done so at the age of about 13 years old is an indication of the abilities that FMB would express in his music in his short life. Mendelssohn your music is so wonderful.

If someone would say that Bach wrote this piece, I would really believe him. The opening and the phrasing sounds that baroque.

Thank you (Adriana Christea) so much for the provenance of the the recording. It drives me nuts when this information is omitted - credit where credit is due, in my opinion. It probably has something to do with licenses, et al.
Nevertheless, thanks...
BTW - Came upon this while searching for a Viola transcription (recording) of the E minor concerto. :)
