It’s completely normal to establish black market economic systems at a young age

Elementary school black markets are extremely common. I think ours was the powder made from the white rocks the school used as decoration.

if i were a teacher at that place, i would definitely pretend i didn't know so that they could continue doing that. I'd secretly even buy more beans. It's good learning, isn't it?

Me and my classmates just building obsticle courses for the bugs and critters we found outside in our classroom. We were not allowed to bring anything inside ever again. I still maintain that my centipede would have won that race agianst the beetle if our teacher hadn't freaked out and thrown all of that in the trash and thrown that bag outside.

Back in 2nd and 3rd grade (I think 1st too but I wasn’t at the school at the time) there was this amazing thing called dragon club. There was so much lore in the simple to order three years it lasted. Like everyone was a dragon and we got to choose what kind of dragon and we all had powers that made sense with our personalities (Ex. The girl who was the quiet kid back then had telepathy) and there was this man named grandpa who would try to hunt us down and my current best friend and another girl I’m friends with were the leaders (and I was like a second in command which was weird cause I wasn’t very good at it since I didn’t know anyone’s names except the two leaders) and that was pretty cool and then there was 3rd grade which was when it split off into two groups: the girl leader had her own group where all of the girls were (except me cause I was a girl then) and then the boy leader had his own group with all the boys and me. The boys group ran pretty much the exact same as before but the girls group was like completely different cause all the lore was gone and then we weren’t even dragons we ist had pet dragons which wasn’t as fun. In fourth grade I did homeschool for personal reasons and when I came back it was over :|

By the way this was in a school of 110 kids approximately at the time and it was only my class of 14 kids who were involved

EDIT: I just got a memory coming back to me of that time (this was separate from dragon club activities) my class had a competition of who could set a leaf on fire first

My youngest sister and I are roughly 10 years apart, so I had a say in what school she should apply to in middle school. As I had played soccer and volleyball in my youth, I could give insight into which schools had better facilities, meaning they had a better PTA program.
When she starts navigating middle school, she learns that two black market industries are striving. One of which the teachers knew about but had no actual proof of unless they were participating in it, and that was selling Wi-Fi.

If the school ever found out that the teachers were giving money to students, they could get fired, so the workaround was that they would give the students selling wifi their in-school currency, which they could use for certain school privileges they offered. These kids would tell their parents to get expensive plans on their phones and share the cut with their parents or whatever deal they had with their parents. Some did it just to let their kids hustle so they wouldn't ask them for things.

The other was shoes. Kids would spend hundreds of dollars on Jordans and wear them to school, only for some other kid to come up and say, "I'll buy them off you." They would be sold twice if not more than what was originally purchased, and they would go home barefoot. I don't think they were ever punished, as the transactions were always discreet, and they can't be blamed if they didn't see money changing hands.

It was funny because one kid had foot fungus and sold his Jordans. Later, he got a bad rep for having dirty feet, so no one came and bought any more shoes from him, and the other sellers started keeping "better footcare, " whatever that meant.

Honestly, when she told me these things, I was always flabbergasted. I remember that we were not allowed to bring so much cash to school because they were afraid people would steal. I guess that was the difference between going to a poor public school and a well-parent-funded/government grant-funded public school.

Thats a full unit on economy right there. When the teacher finally found out they really should have capitalized on the opportunity.

In my 4th grade class we did economy where you got fake money for doing stuff in class and your grades. You got to buy fun toys with it and 1 day everyone had to come up with something to sell. The other 4th grade classes would come through and it was like an open air market. I sold so many root beer floats i was one of the wealthiest people in class.

I mean, honestly I hope that when the teachers found out if they did, they got some sort of reward because that’s actually pretty valuable learning not only did they learn how to do tend to a plant but they sort of learned marketing

To be honest this sounds like a really valuable experience to have, if you liken the beans sprouting to the agricultural revolution you pretty much just speed ran through the bronze age.

farming - farming innovation - building homes - furniture- money

In elementary school, I used to sell my brother’s school photos to all the girls who had a crush on him! If they wanted a picture that he signed, it was double price.😂 Man, those were the days.
