Great piece to Camera, Sal. You are a natural Communicator. Your passion for Maritime Matters and analysis of what's required for reform are second to none on YouTube.

PLEASE ADVISE ME.
I was told to spread my savings across different things like BTC and Stocks to protect and support my retirement. with everything being shaky, I'm considering going into Trade. i don't wanna make the wrong choice.

Pretty crazy how the US voluntarily dismantled its own commercial shipbuilding. I hope the pandemic and Russia/Ukraine war will teach people just how fragile our global system is and how over specialization can leave countries extremely vulnerable during crisis. The US has a lot of excess food and energy but desperately needs more domestic production of things like ships, medical supplies and semiconductors.

I got suggested this channel by chance (because online recommendations still are super bad despite a decade of machine learning), I love it! I am interested in all things logistic because one can appreciate the effort to get something as simple as a package, and also what happens when things go wrong (due to wars and what not).

Once in a blue moon the recommendations work.

Sal, seeing the models behind you reminds me…would like to see a video on your favorite models and kits. 🙏🏼

Philippines #4. Great! I believe a Korean shipbuilder went bankrupt here a year or 2 ago and the shipyard is finally progressing with a new owner. Time will tell how this will progress over the coming years. Love your discussion of shipping and logistics Sal.

Hard to believe that US can keep its position as the world most powerful Navy when they have ZERO commercial shipbuilding.

Ports of LA - Long Beach shipyards are now modern container yards. It was amazing seeing the USN largest ships using the dry dock at Long Beach Naval Shipyard in the late 1970s before it was closed. Only Titan, (aka Herman the German, a WW2 prize), a large floating crane currently in the Panama Canal performing heavy maintenance lifts remains

Interesting list; surprised that Brazil and Indonesia aren’t on the top 15 list for commercial shipbuilding given their coastline, steel production, workforce and universities.
PS — surprised Philippines produced that much tonnage given they have to import all material. They also build high speed ferries at Austal shipyard in Philippines

Well, if you’re going to look at COMMERCIAL ship building in the US, THAT won’t take long. There practically isn’t any. We have major shipyards who mostly build and repair Navy Ships on the East Coast, Gulf Coast, and West Coast.

I honestly think the US legislative branch doesn’t have the will to enact a new national maritime policy for a variety of reasons.

Awesome show.. once again, the suicidal focus on "free trade", and the financialization of american industrial capacity leaves the US not only not competitive, but literally a backwater ... Our obsession with private enterprise doing everything.. is suicidal.

I'm hoping I'm not the only one that's not in the shipping industry but likes the way you make the topic interesting and accessable. Considering new learners only absorb maybe 10 percent, would you consider putting a list of important issues at the end of your videos that sum up your concerns? Or even have an ongoing wish list for the shipping industry? This would be "more US merchant mariners/more US ship builders", right?

Thank you Sal. I almost wept when I heard you say "Yamato and Musashi". I have a hardcover book of them in my living room. And an unfinished model of Yamato in my dining room. So sad that so many people lost their lives and that Yamato and Musashi were such dangerous weapons of war.
