There is absolutely NOTHING WRONG with the beautiful 2D pixel art games being ported to the Dream Cast. In my humble opinion nothing will ever be as stunning as 16/32 bit pixel art games. Thanks for showcasing so many great, amazing, new games!

I love how retro game communities give love to old consoles like the Dreamcast who still hold a nice place in our hearts.

Glad you addressed the whole graphics thing right off that bat. I'm just happy to see physical releases for retro consoles.
Gotta say those shmups actually look really cool. I dig the 70s anime super robot one.

Im really glad you explained the amount of work and people it takes to create games. Most people are clueless to things like this. Great job man!

I think a lot of the issues with the Pixelheart products are they are porting cheap old PC Games that were available for a few quid. Example Wolflame £4.79 on Steam £30+ on Pixelheart, Satazius £4.79, Supercharged Robot VULKAISER £3.99. They did release Arcade Racing Legends but the 2 player mode in that was broken on release, I backed the kickstarter.

Now we have loads of NES ports coming over to the Dreamcast which isn't necessarily a bad thing - I like Flea, but Yeah Yeah Beebliss II for example is basically 10 stages that repeat 10 times with different backgrounds. I have nothing against the developers/John Riggs but to me that's not enough.

You then have quality like Intrepid Izzy, Xenocider, Sturmwind (which is cheap as chips if you look around), Wind & Water Puzzle Battles, Xeno Crisis, Alice Dreams Tournament and some others.

The anime style is making me want to buy Supercharged Robot Vulkaiser.

Great to see some Dreamcast love! This morning, I just saw a port of Portal and a reprint of Xeno Cider are coming, so there is more stuff on the horizon!

While a lot of these indy titles aren't 3d juggernauts, they utilize more sprites on screen, a larger color pallet and more foreground and background layers than most 16 bit consoles are capable of.

Wolflame and Satazius look extremely good…..will have to add these to the want list.

Cheers Mike👍🏻

Great video as always and an answer you and I discussed about wether we would ever see a triple a dreamcast indie game - as you say sadly not - but let’s not let this get in the way of another great video by you Sir, plus a discount code 😍 - perfection

Great talking point about these smaller developer studios and what they're capable of doing versus triple A companies. It's easy to forget that some groups are much smaller and thus easier to set expectations too high.
Now THESE are speaking my language as I do love a good shooter! Some good Gradius-style power ups I'm seeing! OMG--the robot shooter!!! And what's this? Metroidvania you say? That's piqued my interest too.
Alice Sisters looks adorable and fun.
Okay, did not know that about their pins--that's fun.

They also come in a Japanese/USA style format too. I bought some of these late last year.

By showcasing Wolflame you reminded me to check to see if Astro Port has released any new games as the stream of them was slowing down. Looks like Mechblaze and Rocketron are the newest games from them back in 2020. The former looks in line with other solid Astro Port releases while the latter is something that I'll probably get on sale just to round everything out. Most or all of the Astro Port games are from the same fictional world and over a spread out timeline. One thing about them is that the visual arts and special effects look a little samey across many of the games and in some cases (like Steel Strider) the game mechanics can take some adjusting to, but ultimately I appreciate the intent for the type of games that they are releasing.

I wish sega and Nintendo would continue to support their older consoles ie like sonic for the Genesis and master system style
Imagine a smash for nes
Or sonic adventure for ms or genesis

The issue with that fighting game wasn’t that it didn’t push the Dreamcast hardware, it was more that it was an existing uninspired fighting game. It just seemed like someone found this software and just did a lazy port to take advantage of this recent trend of people releasing new software for old hardware.

These games today seemed more polished. Personally if they available on steam and switch, that’s the better platform. For these type of games the switch is perfect. I don’t see the appeal to put these on dreamcast as it doesn’t bring nostalgia to the system.

I would imagine the dreamcast would be a perfect console to bring back 90s arcade racers. I paid full price for ridge racer and didn’t feel ripped off. It only had 1.5 tracks and some cars. Would you need a big team for that?

Otherwise just stick to mega drive stuff and sell them on steam or switch to make some money back.

This just feels like selling 2600 games on a cheap repro mega drive cart.

Enjoy the channel, and it’s great you cover these.
