Learn how to sew a French seam with this tutorial. French seams give a project a neat, professional-looking finish, with no raw edges. Everyone can sew a French seam because they are really easy to sew.

French seams are most often used on garments, and they make the edges of those garments look more elegant and finished. With no raw edges, the fabric garment remains without frayed edges for the life of the piece of clothing.

Great video, I found it really easy to understand where others were not filmed or explained quite so clearly. Thanks!

Place the right-sides of fabric together. On one side you will leave an opening (you will not stitch this opening by machine) about 3" to 5" wide. Machine stitch started at the one end of the opening, stitch around the other three sides, then stitch stitch the last side leaving the opening. Turn the project right side out. Then hand slip stitch the opening closed.

Hi Thank you for your comment. I have been sewing for many, many years and have lots of favorite things - quilts, wall hanging, pocketbooks and clothing. Since you like sewing, you may also like some of our other videos such a spool knitting, finger knitting and making a simple friendship bracelet. Check them out!

In the future, would you consider using fabric that isn't the same color on both sides (or close enough that it might as well be the same)? I found it hard to keep track of right side/wrong side. But other than that, I feel like I have a better handle on the concept.
