In this video I discuss how actions being taken by the US government and corporations may soon bring us into a world where self driving vehicles are mandatory for transportation on public roads.

They decided this was easier than making public transportation actually viable

I thought everyone's own cars would eventually rat them out to the police. I never considered them ratting out other cars. We're living in the lamest cyberpunk dystopia timeline.

Here in the former Eastern block, we used to look at America as the beacon of liberty. Nowdays America scares the hell out of me.

If driving manually becomes illegal, I will GLADLY become a criminal.

They want robots to drive cars but the way my computer determines that I’m *NOT* a robot is by the fact that I can identify traffic lights, stop signs, crosswalks, cars, buses, bicycles, and motorcycles…..

All this over-techifying of cars just makes me want an old banger.

Old bangers:

Don't have ai
Doesn't require a wifi connection to work
Are easy to fix
Cheap
Not a snitch
Starts with a key
Won't get stolen because old and ugly
No subscriptions for heated seats etc

Imagine if a car doesn't start for 2 minutes to raise awareness of a current thing event.

Self driving cars will only work in a system designed entirely for it. At which point they really aren’t cars as we understand them. They would be like public service transportation pods.

Get in the pods.

We already have self driving cars, they're called trains.

Despite the fact that they are rare in the United States, manual transmissions are still popular around the world. Over 80% of global vehicles are still stick shift.

The giant problem is that all the people in support of this tech do not know the consequences. We will have such a proprietary future and I hate it.

If you actually want to stop drunk driving, build public transit.

I have driven drunk exactly once in my life, back in 2018.

My dad, my brother and I were camping in the woods in the middle of nowhere. We were having quite a few beers and chatting while my brother and I were setting up the tents and my dad was chopping wood for our campfire. Suddenly, he hit himself in the wrist with his hatchet. He must've hit an artery, because he was bleeding profusely (you could actually see the blood flow "pulsating" with every heart beat) and even with our first aid kit, we were unable to stop the bleeding. Calling an ambulance to that place would've taken at least an hour (there were some rather small villages in the vicinity, but the next hospital was far away). So, despite being quite drunk, I drove him to the nearest village, where we fortunately found a gp who was used to treating all kinds of wounds since he was the only doctor in town and the next hospital was so far away. By the time we arrived, my dad was pale as a corpse, sweating profusely and delirious. Thankfully, the doctor managed to stop the bleeding and called an ambulance that arrived like 45 minutes later to take him to the hospital. He healed up pretty well, only lost the ability to move one of his fingers.

My point is: Had I not been able to start the car, hammered as I was, there's a good chance my dad would've died on that day. There are sometimes emergency situations where we NEED to be able to break the rules, and creating a system that never allows you to ignore the rules will inevitably lead to such emergency cases turning into tragedies.
