My wife and I are DINKS and we are above the average and are comfortable However people forget that most people live above their means. We live by the old saying “The rich stay rich by acting like they are poor and the poor stay poor by acting like they are rich”. We save a lot and that gives us a very comfortable cushion when something happens or if we want a little splurge moment like a vacation or something nice.

How far your money goes also depends on where you live. Our money would go farther if we moved to the midwest but for health reasons I won't leave where I am; it's not worth it. Food and housing is higher here and it's harder on younger people than it is on those of us who prioritized paying off our houses. We never had a low mortgage interest rate, we paid between 7.5-12.5%. Making extra payments instead of buying a lot of Christmas crap paid off.
When we were young, we lived wherever the work was, including living in four states in four years and at one time had three houses with two mortgages while trying to sell two of the houses (all while moving to the fourth state and getting a fourth house). My kids learned the difference between, "I don't have money for that" and "I don't have money". We always paid every bill and had what we needed.
Sometimes you have to assess where you live and move to where the cost of living is lower or you can make a lot more money.
We had fun as a family doing free or inexpensive things. I was the mom that was outside playing soccer, football and baseball with my kids instead of going to the movies. They still remember that.

The average Canadian houshold in Ontario makes LESS than the average household in Mississippi.

Let that sink in.

$78K is doable without kids (although I guess it really depends on where you live).
Our daycare is $3K per month.

No kids means they have a lot of extra money to bid up housing prices.

And that's not good enough. You must strive to pay all of it out in order to be considered successful. 😉 Why don't you want better, go to school and learn more so you can get a better job. Blah blah 😑 ❤
