I last tried Kdenlive a couple of years ago, swiftly ditching the editor because it was so unstable it would crash without warning, failing to autosave. I assumed two years' worth of fine-tuning later it would be more reliable so worth another shot. How naive I was! Ten minutes into a very basic project involving nothing more than cutting, rippling and fading, the application vanished without a trace. I re-started yet there was no offer to recover my project.

It doesn't matter one iota what a tool is theoretically capable of if it can't be trusted not to spontaneously die, losing anything you achieved since last saving.

Thanks for the quick tutorial, very helpful. One anomaly I am having is when adding the wipe compositions just as you did, it is not working for me. They are on the timeline but the effect doesn't work on playback. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?
