The most expensive part of backyard chickens is the start up costs. I really recommend a DIY job vs the prefabs (unless you're planning of adding a second roof above the prefabs). Also fun fact our government used to promote and encourage backyard chicken ownership up until the late 1950s.

Our chickens are not just supplying us with eggs. They are also pets with different personalities and have names they respond too. As well we sell the eggs we don’t need to neighbors, friends, and families.

People don't understand the cost associated with raising your own chickens and producing eggs. The industry has a control on the price of chicken feed and they continue to increase the cost and make it insufficient to raise your own eggs which forces us to have to buy them from the store. You also have to make special sand in with the food so that their digestive system works properly.

If they bring down the price of chicken feed and scratch then we can afford to raise our own chickens. Hopefully we'll see this change in the next 4 years

The problem is Americans are not doing their part to help. If every American just looked in the mirror and said „Golf of America“ three times the price of eggs would drop to a dollar.

I remember seeing ostrich and quail eggs in downtown Seattle lol.. chicken feed costs a lot and if you want an actual good chickens you need blue chicken eggs with sea kelp.. quails on the other hand are a lot easier to raise and require less space and can be raised indoors easily... Quail habita lay around 14 to 15 eggs per day.

😂 yes. And when the price of ham goes up, I will buy some pet pigs 😂. I have a better idea, stop eating eggs for a few weeks!

I'm really trying to wrap my brain around the whole "Bird Flu Epidemic" why isn't anyone asking why is it just the eggs supposedly being affected but NOT THE CHICKEN

I live in North West Mississippi and I went to the store this morning and bought 18 extra large eggs for
$ 5.35. Thats.29¢ each. I don't understand why people are complaining about the price of eggs. How many eggs can a person eat in a day? 10 eggs would cost me 2.90$ that's not bad. But, I don't know how much they charge in other states so maybe I'm wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.
5.35

I understand that the state of WA can only sell cage free eggs. That's one reason.

backyard chickens, how are you saving money on eggs? Now you have the cost of vet care and feed, not to mention start up costs

I read a comment that if you look in the mirror and say Gulf of America three times the prices will drop. Easier than this whole keeping chickens bit.

Not the answer, no. The answer for MOST people will be buying eggs online in whole powdered form. I have been eating dried powdered whole eggs for years now. They keep well in the cupboard. Just add water or milk to reconstitute and cook. Taste is outstanding. Price is decent and perhaps better than what some folks are paying now for fresh eggs.

Now how do people with no back yard get eggs?

So aren’t our back yard chickens at risk for bird flu since wild birds carry bird flu and carries through the air also ??
