When I was a kid, my mum had a blue MK5 Golf 1.4 FSI which we all loved and when this episode aired it brought us so much extra pride in owning it.

I was obsessed with it and it ended up being my first car - great until the timing chain went and the valves bent.

I had it repaired and it braved a trip to Paris and further thrashing for two years before I sold it to some nutters who took it off the road soon after.

It was a simple, uncomplicated and happy car that did everything we needed it for and I miss it sometimes.

The magnetic field that's generated around that sort of arcing current is absolutely insane, you can feel it in your skin and your hairs stand on end, everything just buzzes. That must have been quite a rush for him! And a video could never do the sound of those arcs any justice, being anywhere near it sounds like reality is being split in two.
