Scientists have successfully tested a drug which kills cancer cells without damaging the nearby healthy tissues. Cancer cells are greedy and consume high amounts of food for energy they typically ingest more than the healthy cells. Scientists at Edinburgh have developed a molecule, SeNBD and combined it with food compound to trick cancer cells.
SeNBD is also a light-activated photosensitizer means it activates only after it's turned on by visible light. Once the Cancer cells have injected this molecule a surgeon can precisely activate the drug using visible light. Reducing the chances of destroying healthy tissues and also avoiding other side-effects like hair loss. Experiment has successfully conducted on Zebrafish and they doing more studies to confirm it is safe.
