About PPCC

I Let's Play various games, I make a wide selection of gameplay videos for strategy, simulators, and adventure/ action video games. On this channel you'll find mostly playthrough videos on PC video game release acting as not only let's plays but guides, tutorials and walkthroughs.

Ultimate General: Gettysburg is a Tactical Battle Simulator that allows you to lead thousands of soldiers in the famous Battle of Gettysburg as commander of either the Union or Confederate army. The game will feature the most accurately created map, complex morale, innovative control mechanics and smart AI. You will have the freedom to use different strategies while the battle progresses. Your decisions and military performance play a crucial role in the result. Lead your army and win the Battle of Gettysburg!

Smart AI Commanders
Ultimate General: Gettysburg does not use "AI gameplay cheats" because it does not need them. The game's difficulty is accomplished only by nine distinctive AI personalities, each with their own advantages and special skills. AI Commanders are able to evaluate and gain tactical superiority in real time, reacting according to their different commanding skills, aggressively or defensively, heroically or cunningly and resemble different, competent human players.

What players say: "Fantastic AI - don't know what kind of brain you put in this game but it works"

Detailed Map of Gettysburg
Utilizing satellite images and historical maps, every major location, house, ridge and hill are depicted as accurately as possible within the game's unique art style. If you are an American Civil War enthusiast, you will be especially happy to notice the amount of precision and information that the map provides. Not only will you be able to better understand the historical layout of the map, you will also be able to make use of each location and landmark in battle, thanks to the simulation of cover, concealment, terrain and high ground in the game.

What players say: "Incredible Gorgeous Map - I had to capitalize that because this map is by far one of the best maps of Gettysburg I have ever seen either in a game or even in books"

Numerous Tactical Factors
In Ultimate General: Gettysburg, you will realize that army units are not "machines" that blindly follow orders, but will need to conserve strength and courage for decisive battle actions. Every basic tactical element that is expected for a strategy game is incorporated into gameplay. Most importantly, morale is affected by many factors including flank or rear attacks, casualties, volley shocks, artillery fire and fatigue.

What players say: "... positioning of units matters. You really bring the struggles of 19th century warfare to life here"

Historically Accurate Forces and Leaders
Ultimate General: Gettysburg includes the full order of battle for the Union Army of the Potomac and the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia. Unit sizes will range from the small artillery batteries to vast infantry brigades with cavalry and skirmishers in between.
All brigades have troop numbers and differing competencies based on historical facts. Additionally, all artillery battery numbers and types are correctly simulated. Lastly, major generals and officers actively participate in the battlefield to organize and support the armies and will also appear in after action battle reports to help you monitor battle progress.

Ultimate General: Gettysburg is developed by Game Labs and designed by Nick Thomadis, known for his successful and popular "DarthMod" series.

Ah this is the game made by the guy known for the Darthmods for the total war games isn't it?

@ 10:25, they weren't shooting because you didn't have them in range.  Don't blame the devs for that.

just a piece of advice, on harder difficulty and a more aggressive A.I, keeping your artillery further back on the battlefield is a very smart move. The aggressive ordnance placement is only effective until your infantry line fails and/or breaks

I'm going to point out a couple things;
1.This is an early access so not all aspects of the game are ready and they even had a post on the game page saying the melee mechanics aren't complete yet.
2. at 10:26 Davis's men aren't facing the enemy which is why they weren't shooting.
3. The casualty rate is decently historically accurate which the game is aiming for. If muskets were as accurate/effective as the total war games depict the napoleonic wars and american civil war battles wouldn't have lasted for hours or in Gettysburg's case days.
4. This game is a spiritual successor to Sid Meier's Gettysburg and Antietam and isn't really comparable to total war other than the fact your commanding troops on a battlefield.

Within the ACW, the lack of casualties during a melee is fairly representative.   Most bayonet charges would end before the forces actually impact one another.  Either the charging force will break or the charged force before the bayonets clash.   Obviously this hasn't really represented that fact but just shows this light 'melee'.

This game is a direct rip of an old PC game from 1997, Sid Meier's Gettysburg! However, it's a pretty faithful recreation and I find it just as addictive, so I'll allow it.

The game speaks for it self, it's a diamond in the rough.

I wanted to like this game... a year later and the same problems. (since it was alpha) Honestly dont comment unless you have played and went through the struggle. The struggle is real. Compound that with 1776 guns and horrid AI and its just poor. Your troops just stand there so much, its unreal. Yes - meaning my own soldiers. My solders simply dont listen to MANY commands. A few key parts are also not intuitive. (Like how to choose difficulty for instance, its just wonky, maybe they updated it?) But problems like your army or cannons just sitting there, it happens.... 20 to 40 times per battle!!!! Not once or twice. This game gets amazing reviews but I dont get it. I sometimes put 8000 guys at 1200 enemy guys.... and my guys will retreat, sometimes because they happen to be only 800 in their army group, standing next to 7500 guys. Things like that. The stand there and do nothing, so much. Its riddled with small issues. Riddled like small pox. The cannons not working is maddening, soldiers not listening, or for instance...forming a wide shooting line, when you simply asked them to move... etc. etc. etc. (then they just stand there, you guessed it, ha) Its poor. But the general conception is good. The graphics are good. Sound is good. Its like they needed a stranger to play it, to tell them... YO DUDES! I assume no one QC'ed this, outside of their circle / loop. Its blatant

I bought it on sale, so wouldn't return it. Besides it takes 2 hours to realize your soldiers werent doing anything. ha. I like to support little developers, or guys in their basement. I'll also watch some other people and see if I am missing anything, but trust me, what this guy says is true, its got serious issues and its not fun. Its very frustrating. So not point in commenting, unless you played 5-10 hours atleast.
