How to Set: Havahart® Medium 2-Door Trap Model #1030 for Mink, Large Squirrels & Rabbits

About 12 years ago we removed three (3) squirrels from our attic with one of these. Just the other day we pulled it out of retirement and got the pack rat that was running around in our attic over our bedroom. They were all relocated to better (from our perspective) living accommodations in the Arizona desert. Don't remember what I paid for it - but it was worth every penny.

When people buy Havahart traps, they should use a permanent black marker to
write the model number(which is always on the box) somewhere on the trap.
Then after you throw out the box and later decide to do a video, you will know
the model number of the trap you are demonstrating and you can include that
in the video name. I have no idea why Havahart does not stamp every trap
with the model number, so people would have this info for later reference.

The most effective way to to dispose of grey squirrels IN MY YARD is the Havahart
model # 1083 EZ-set, 1 door trap. I don't have the time or energy to be making
home made traps by hand.
I have used the Havahart EZ-set # 1083 to dispose of 360 grey squirrels since
June 2014. The 1-door EZ-set traps save me time in 3 different ways:
1) They are much easier and faster to set than 2 door traps.
2) they are also much easier to bait because you just put the bait behind the
trigger plate, instead of trying to balance the bait on top of the trigger plate.
I have had the 1030 go off in my hand from the motion while walking with it. Very annoying.
3) I don't have any false alarms any more because the 1083 is NEVER set off
by small birds. It takes a 1 pound animal to set off the 1083 and almost all
grey squirrels weigh at least 1 pound. That is important if you are not home
to keep checking your traps. You will never catch a squirrel, if the trap is closed
for hours with a small bird inside.
I used to use a 1030 for grey squirrels but since I bought 2 of the EZ set traps
I stopped using the older model trap. Every squirrel that I dispose of is 1 less squirrel
that will ravage my garden of tomatoes and my bird feeders. I take them all
to the exact same spot in the nearby woods and allow scavengers like possums
to have the carcass. Win-Win

Possums are unfairly maligned by many people simply because of the way they look
Home Depot and Lowes do not stock the 1083 but I was able to get them
online for about $35 via Amazon

I have two different sturdy traps but somehow Raccoons managed to escape multiple times. They get away from the very corner bottom of the doors. Any suggestions?

I got tired of watching 2 squirrels in my trap at a time. Only way to trap them was to hit the trap with a rock when they were in it. So I guess it finally worked.

HELP!!! Squirrels REACH IN in thru cage on the sides for the bait and SET THE TRAP while on the OUTSIDE. This is a total FAIL unless you can help me out.
