I watch Hoarders in the background when I need to deep clean. I grew up in a Hoarding home and the weight never leaves.

I have a saying when it comes to cleaning out my house. "If you have not used it for the past year, you do not need it. Get rid of it."

They need to do followup episodes after 6 months to a year after the cleanup. I wonder how many ended up back where they began.

THe show helped me realize that I tend to gather things when I have lost a person. I now recognize it as a sign of depression. I didn't throw food on the floor, but I collected clutter. Trying to fill the hole in my heart with things. Being homeless for a while cut me down to only a few possessions; now that I have a place to live again I don't want to have anything I don't need. I'm focused on my family and job. Thanks for helping me improve MY life!

I like an empty house but it is hard to get rid of everything. I love this show, it helps me get rid of things. I could not live with a hoarder, I would be so stressed out, not to mention the dirt that accumulates.

When I used to see this show, I always felt worse for the pets they had than for them. I'd see a dog or cat trying to make their way around these horrible houses with no place for them to walk, sleep or eat. I felt that the animals should have been taken away from these people. I hated seeing these poor animals.

The show did confirm one crucial thing for me that my mom is NOT normal. I honest to God used think for decades that everything she said and did was gospel. She hoards and cannot be reasoned with.

Video mentions that it is more common than we realize. I came from a mid-hoarders family. Some of the extreme cases have some mental challenges, but for more lighter - hoarders the problem is a bit different from what I have seen. Finances, hobby interests without time to pusue, things needing repair.. but no money to repair, uncertain future regarding finances to replace damaged things, time management and organizational skills.

It's funny to me how the hoarders never take personal responsibility of their hoard. They say things like, "All of it just began to accumulate, and the more it accumulated, the harder it was to get rid of it." You never hear them say things like, "I began to accumulate stuff and grow my hoard."

What the....?? How is this "the truth about hoarders"? The first half is just the most basic history of the show and the second half is summaries of a few episodes. WASTE OF TIME.

As someone whose best friend is a hoarder I understand what the people who try to help face, the individuals get very combative and defensive when you try to help them, one thing I learned with my friend is that the hoarder does not believe that anything is wrong with the way they live, they don't see what a nonhoarder sees when looking at their home, my friend actually said, I guess things are a little messy but it's months bad. The drawers in his kitchen are filled with rodent droppings, there are plates of dried food all over the house, when visit him it's only to fix something that's broken in his house, he dare not let anybody in, he does have running water the toilets in all three bathrooms work, they're filthy but they work, I replaced one a couple of years ago. All this started before he got married then after the hoard become so bad that his wife committed suicide because of it, the only episodes I can't watch are the ones where people hoard animals, in particular cats, I love cats and to see them living in filth makes me angry and upset.

Can't watch the ones that involve children living in the house or animals living in the house. Too awful to watch.

This show is quite extreme. I watch it occasionally just to shock myself into keeping my home decluttered.

I much prefere Clean Sweep with Peter Walsh. Much more relatable and realistic.
