How to Fix a Dripping Moen Faucet for FREE!

The Moen Caldwell High Arc kitchen faucet that I installed 19 months ago developed a drip in the hot water cartridge. A phone call to Moen at 1-800-BUY-MOEN put me in touch with the guy that had two replacement cartridges in the mail and step by step instructions in my email folder in short order. Sure, I paid more for the faucet than I would have a cheap plastic model from the RV dealer but I live in the RV Full Time and didn't want or need the hassle of messing around with junk any longer. Moen. Buy it for Looks; Buy it for Life.

Thank you so much for sharing this information. I had no idea what model number I had but called customer support and they told me there is only one model number for the 2 handled Moen Kitchen faucet, my sink was also dripping and now the handle is spinning all the way around, the cartridge has completely broke.... so if I didn't see your video I would not have been able to get the cartridge replaced not know the model number. Even though I bought the house with this sink faucet already installed they are still standing by their product and sending me free of charge 2 new cartridges!! I don't know if I personally can do the job, but I can hire a handy man. Your video was a true blessing to me. Thank you again.

Thank you posting this, your video was infinitely easier to follow than the indecipherable instruction sheet that came with the cartridges. I purchased a new Moen kitchen faucet for my birthday (pathetic birthday present, I know!) and then paid a plumber nearly $500 to install it -- of course the shut-off valves started leaking as soon as he touched them, so they needed to be replaced too. The next day my new faucet was dripping incessantly and annoyingly, so I called Moen and they said it was probably a faulty cartridge. I just replaced both the cartridges with the new ones Moen sent me, and so far so good. I'm not real pleased that my brand new faucet was dripping, but Moen did make good on their promise, and I wasn't about to pay the plumber to come back out again if I could help it. So thank you again, as I would probably have had to call the plumber back out if I hadn't found your video :)

Thank you! I just save a couple hundred bucks by not calling a plumber. Thanks to Moen for honoring a real lifetime warranty and thanks for your video on how to replace!

I have a similar high-arc Moen faucet. I suspect mine is a cheaper model. However, instead of the handles being one piece connected to the shield around the base, mine has threaded shields surrounding the cartridge nut. I bought a mini strap wrench to unscrew the cartridge shields. Everything was covered in calcium deposits! I'm amazed at how clean yours looks. I mean from the outside the sink appears spotless, but inside the cartridge shields? Yikes. The cartridge nuts are surprisingly delicate. They warp out of shape a bit if you're not careful while you're loosening or tightening them. I had to rig a mini pulley cam system to gently pull out the hot water cartridge because it was well and truly stuck. I got the job done thanks to this video, but this likely is the last time this faucet will be able to handle a cartridge replacement. The faucet is about 20 years old. I replaced the cartridges about ten years ago too. Since then the chrome plating on the inside of the handles as buckled. I had to Dremel the cartridge silicone knobs to fit the handles. I'm probably going to go with a new faucet altogether next time because I don't think this one will survive another cartridge replacement. I was pretty delicate with the operation. It's just that the pieces are thin and corrosion is certainly setting in. Not sure they really mean it when they suggest it will survive for life.

My father was a master plumber and back in a day Kohler was the best. In the last 20 years I hear Delta + Moen. I've been using Moen and they make quality fixtures and they DEFINITELY honor their Life time warranty products !

I might add a word of caution. When working on faucets with handle screws, I place a paper towel over the drain to prevent a dropped screw from falling into the drain and sink trap. It has happened to me before, but no longer. [added]Same applies to light fixtures over a sink.

Thank you for your video. We were able to fix our drippy faucet by watching you do it! Super easy when you know how!

Mine was a different kind of dual handle faucet which had side holes on the "back" that needed an allen wrench to remove but basically it was the same kind of repair method. The 1224 inserts seem to be a universal size, mine didn't have the "B" on the name and I got them from Lowes. I wanted to get them and get it done rather than wait for a "free" set. Thanks for sharing this.

I watched this 7:35 video and thought, "Hey! It's the exact same faucet that I have and this is pretty cut and dried!" So I went to Lowes, where I got the faucet, and used the picture I took from this video to get the right cartridges. Of course, Lowes didn't have Moen cartridges so I had to get the Danco ones that they say "works with Moen."

Long story short, I followed this video and it took me 2.5 hours and multiple attempts only to find there was still a leak. I thought I'd done something wrong even though I could not figure out how that could be. THERE'S ONE PART!!! So I cleaned the old Moen cartridges, applied plumbers grease to the outside of the cartridges on the O-rings, reinstalled, and the leak stopped. That took 10 minutes. I despise plumbing with every fiber of my being.

Thanks so much for this video. I just changed my hot water cartridge on the same faucet model after watching this. Only thing I did differently was to use a thin bladed knife to pry up the cartridge a bit - which I saw in a different video - because I wasn't strong enough to just pull the old cartridge straight out. Then I was able to pull the cartridge out by hand. And yes, I was careful not to mar the brass threads.
But why is it always the hot water cartridge that needs replacing? This is my third hot water cartridge since installing the faucet about 4 years ago, cold water one is still on the original.

Just fixed mine. Sent me free stems ASP. Easy fix. Mine was the HOT. This is due to residue that is produced in the hot water tank.

I have a MOEN faucet system in my kitchen that was in the house when I purchased the property in 1999. Not sure how old it is, but it's leaking, so this video was very informative. Thank you.
