I agree. I don't understand the whole tipping at coffee shops. That's what they're paid hourly to do just like any of us.

As someone who has worked in restaurants for years, tipping on take out orders is ridiculous.

No tipping at all anywhere. That crap is out of control. 🤦‍♂️

I love the fact that we don't tip at all in the UK. Why should waiting staff rely on customers to get properly paid? Pay your staff properly!

Tipping when it's unexpected is the best way to tip, it really makes someone's day.

I’m only tipping for dine in, I’m not tipping for pickup ever 😂.

I was at a “Self-Service Frozen Yogurt” place called “Orange Leaf” where you walk in, go through a line, grab a cup yourself, and use levers on frozen yogurt dispensers to add product and toppings of your choice to your dish. At the end of the line a person at a register weighs your dish and turns a tablet around with total + 18% 20% 25% tip choices with the 20% pre-selected. It’s self service. The only thing the employee does is weigh your dish….do I need to tip the guy at the supermarket deli counter who weighs my chickpea salad?

Here is who i tip:
-Waitstaff when dining in.
-Bartender
-Barber
-Delivery driver
-Uber/Taxi driver
-The guys who load my pre-ordered groceries into my vehicle
-Strippers
I've never used a valet
That is it. I will never tip on one of those damn touch screens.

It’s out of hand now days even at gas ⛽️ stations you get the prompt if you want to tip!

I think tip if you can tip, and don't if you can't.. and folks on the other side should realize if they depend on tips to live, and you aren't getting enough tips, you should reevaluate your position.. And to the crowd that says if you can't afford to tip you can't afford to eat out.. I say that's ridiculous, if a family on a tight budget wants to eat out once every couple months and not tip, all the power to them!

In BC Canada, servers are all paid at least minimum wage and tips are EXTRA for them. So dining in, tipping makes sense. However, unless something special is done, I don't typically tip on fast food pick ups. Also, make sure to read receipts. I hate when people ask for an additional tip and the receipt shows it was already taken automatically and added into the bill. That warrants a conversation about where the automatic tip is going to (eg: shared with kitchen staff, etc)

I do 10% to 20% ... then just hope when you get home the order is right.... I hate tipping on take out then you get home and the orders screwed up... Also, this is very refreshing, not having Jade dominate a conversation, see how George just slips in here and there...

I don't like places that automatically add it on.

North America’s tipping culture is absolutely insane. My family in Europe can’t even understand it.

As a former restaurant owner/manager/chef I can tell you that tipping is only required when a server brings you your meal/drinks. However there are some industry's like cab driving, delivery services, or some other concierge service where tipping is also appreciated and accepted. This helps them cover the extra cost of these services, like gas and wait time for your food where they are not getting compensated. If you feel like tipping, do so, but if you don't, do not expect five star service.

I feel like the audacity to put the tip online before you get your food is guilting you into doing it and I feel like my food won't be prepared as well if they see 0

Tipping was something so odd to me as an Australian when I visited the US. We may tip waitstaff who go above & beyond to make our experience great but they are in no way expecting it, which makes it even more of a blessing to do it. Tipping in the US is just an added expense as far as I could tell. In Australia the price on the menu even includes the tax. We only pay a surcharge on a public holiday of 15% because the staff are paid double time and a half. Restaurant staff 21 or over are earning $24 hour on average.

Pro tip: there is no question for a tip when you pay cash.
