A city that combines classical Greek and Indian architecture. I can only imagine how beautiful it must have been.

Quite bizarre kingdoms and yet they often go completely unnoticed even by history enthusiasts.
Thanks for bringing them to our attention.
They kind of reminds me of the state of Jaxa, a country located between Russia and China established by Polish nobleman Nicefor Czernichowski. Probably even more unknown.

Its also interesting to see that there were even Greek mercenaries operating as far as Sri Lanka during this time frame as well. Quite the travelers these ancient Greeks.

As an Indian, I'm always fascinated by the incredible kingdoms we had way back 2000 years ago. On top of that having Greek kingdoms on the borders is so cool. If only these cultural ties remained today :(

The Buddhas of Afghanistan that were blown by the Taliban, were either made by Greek stonemasons or people trained by Greek stonemasons. Their destruction was extremely saddening event

This one was a hard one to research. Did you know that there is surviving documentation for the Indo-Greek King Zoisos II, but none for Zoisos I? Its a mysterious and largely unknown part of history.

Those elephants later became Selucus's trump card against Antigonus in the Battle of Ipsus.

Fun fact: in the Darbar hall of the rashtrapati bhavan (the Indian presidential palace) there is a statue of lord Buddha dating to about 4th century ad. The statue was discovered near the gandhara region (modern day Pakistan and Afghanistan). It bears striking resemblance with the sculptures of classical rome and Greece.
