Namaste Swami ji! I love your guide to various meditation techniques, thank you for generously sharing this knowledge! I have a humble question for you. As a person of foreign background, I found that although Hindu faith is closer to me by spirit than any others, but sometimes it is not so easy for me as a foreign language speaker to stay involved in regular services in our Mandir, since they are held in Sanskrit and then translated into Hindi (once again, thank you for your work, it deepens my understandings and helps stay present). I found that ISKCON groups are more approachable for people like me, since they teach in so many languages, and I found a group with my own native language, and I participate in their weekly lectures and discussions of Bhagavad Gita. However, I feel that their teachings are not the same as in traditional Hinduism. For example, they suggest that there IS one best mantra for our time of Kali Yuga, and it is Hare Krishna Mahamantra. They say that this mantra is the means for us to please and serve the God in his original form of Krishna. They also suggest reciting it daily out loud for 16 rounds of 108 repetitions, which takes more than 2 hours. I feel this society in some ways contradicts to what I learn about Hinduism, stating that all the rest forms of God like Shiva, Brahma and Vishnu, and more - are just demigods, whereas the original and absolute one is Krishna, and so we should not praise them but only Krishna. I like their inviting atmosphere, their accessibility for people of diverse origins, but feel that I disagree with some aspects of their faith. My husband is Hindu since birth, and he supports my participation in their weekly events, however he also points out to their strict and sometimes almost abrahmic approach of "here is the ultimate truth, the rest is inferior". May I humbly ask you to share your opinion about this movement and whether it is a good idea for me to continue attending their events, or, given that I feel contradiction between their teaching, grounded firmly in the work of Shrila Prabhupada, and the diversity of Hinduism, offering multiple ways to follow dharma, it would be a better solution for me to find an English speaking community within Hindu tradition, even though it would be only on-line connection with them? Thank you, Lala, from Vancouver.
