My first lesson was after the first snow of the winter and there was still a bit of ice on the wings. Took off, engine quit at about 500' altitude and the instructor was just as calm as could be. We made it back to the strip with ZERO room to spare. I still have that Logbook, He wrote, "Introduction to engine failure." True story.

I remember my first solo…I could hear my CFI’s voice in my head as the Cub and I settled in on final. Wasn’t even aware we’d touched down until I looked at my airspeed and realized I was 15 knots below stall speed and only turning 800 rpms! My CFI was beaming when I got back to the flight line. Next dozen landings weren’t nearly that smooth…lol!

I wish my instructor had been like that. She used to yell at me during the final approach. "More power! More power!". Terrible. No wonder it took me 66 hours to solo. Well done this instructor, and student. Good job.
