If you are going to test of this sort, you have to keep all variables the same. Hull weights, years of motors, horse powers of motors, water conditions, etc.

I wonder how the math works factoring in the extra purchase price and increased maintenance of the extra engine. Would the fuel burn savings offset that ?

Only difference is the quads means an extra 30 thousand ish dollars for a fourth motor

I have extrapolated the data and have just ordered 6 15HP outboards for my boat

Question, I noticed there’s two different brands of engines here and I’m not saying one is better than the other, but that variable could make a large difference especially if the engines are 10 years apart or a similar variable

Were the tests done the same day under the same conditions? I know weather can affect my GPH drastically

It’d take 10 years to break even at $5 a gallon to make up the cost difference between triples vs quads.

Crazy bad. I have trip 350 Suzuki and at 40 mph it burns 45 gph

So after 650 hours of cruising time you pay for the motor😂 not to mention the extra maintenance cost. Fuel efficient versus cost efficient somebody who’s going to use their motor 350+ hours a year it might be worth it with somebody who only puts 20 to 50 or 60 hours on the motor per year. I don’t believe it would be worth the cost over an extra motor. Then again, if the boat is not for commercial use, and this is a personal vessel, chances are you have enough money that neither one even matter. Lol

you are showing 2 different engines from different engine manufactures so to really compare this they need to be the same engine from the same manufacture.
