Homegrown Hops Harvest and Wet Hop Home Brewing

On Labor Day weekend, we took to the backyard to pick some fresh hops from a 5 year old hop garden. Rather than dry and package the hops this year, we picked them and put them right into the kettle. A First Wort Hopping (FWH) and a big hop stand round out our first ever Wet Hop Harvest Ale.

I love the homegrown hop serious. I'm growing three bines of Cascade hops, here in Kansas. Over the years (seventh season, I think) I've had mixed results due to the hot, and some time droughty, summers. You've inspired me to give it a more concerted effort. Love the work Brew Dudes! Cheers!

Are those hops in the video growing on a south facing wall? About how many hours of direct sunlight are they getting?

Planted rhizomes in April. Limited sun. 1 got 6 feet tall and has a couple dozen buds on it. The other is only 4 feet tall and struggling to keep up. Thanks for sharing. #p3brews

Is beer mash similar to brewing tea, where if you squeeze out the blossoms it makes the liquid more bitter?
