My Favorite tools

So today, it's all about Swiss chard. How many of you have eaten this before? I actually have not had this very much in my lifetime. I actually never ate it growing up, because I avoided all greens, if possible. But you see all of these colors. See, look at the reds, the orange yellows, just a hint of purple. The veins are red, the leaves are green. And this is a powerhouse. This is like a superfood in its own category. I would almost put this up there with kale.

Health benefits of chard begins with vitamin K, all of our green leafy vegetables are going to give us vitamin K. That is a natural way that God designed for your bloodstream to always be flowing perfectly to not clot to not be too thin like blood thinners do but to not clot as well. So this is a perfect vegetable,

It's always going to be more of an adaptogen in your body, it's going to bring your body back to the normal state that it should be in versus what medications do is throw us into the other category.

Now we also have lots of vitamins A vitamin C, we got minerals, manganese, potassium, potassium keeps you well-hydrated is what I want to say you're not going to get dehydrated, it's going to help with your blood pressure because we have to have a normal state of water balance and electrolyte balance. And this shard is going to help you do that. And you know, I am all about fiber.

So this is another fiber boost in your diet. So if you're trying to lose weight, or you're trying to just get a healthy digestive system back again, you can think clearly you need fiber in your diet. So shard is a perfect example of a food that's going to do that for you.

What is your favorite way of serving this? You just kind of grill them? Do you saute them with your vegetables? Do you add some potatoes as you add some beats to it? How do you enjoy your shard? And I can't wait to read your comments and also be sure to give it a thumbs up if you like this.

I live in a very cold climate. Chard freezes wonderfully. Wash, dry, cut, and put in a zip lock bag. It's great for soups or in your scrambled eggs.

I am planting some today, mainly for "chop and drop" in my garden but also to eat for the first time after it matures. Didn't know it was such good stuff.

I love Swiss Chard!! I take and cut up a quarter of an onion, put as much garlic as I feel like, add salt and pepper to some olive oil, and cut off the stems of my chard and sauté all of that for a bit before I put in my leaves and sauté all of it for a while. After I do the leaves for a bit I pour 1/2 a cup of chicken broth on all of it, salt and pepper some more, then put a lid on it and turn it every little bit to cook it thoroughly though not too long. Doesn’t take much…. I have turned to cooking a mixture of ALL of my greens together this way!!! Sometimes I throw some different spices in there to liven it up a bit…. Sometimes I throw red pepper flakes in there or Apple cider vinegar in there….. Just depends on my mood!

I add it to my lentil soup, or stuff it.
I don’t use it often, for sometimes I add spinach to my lentil soup, but now, I will use it more.
Thank you and God bless you. 🙏🙏🙏

Hi Annette,
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
FYI: People like myself with kidney issues should be cautious about eating foods high in oxalate ie swiss chard.
Have a blessed day.

I grow swiss chard. It is amazing to grow and eat. I cut around half a dozen leaves and I either eat it raw in salad or I cook it and add a can of lentil soup to it. Cooked, it is tastier than spinach, in a good way.

Did you know that Swiss Chard is part of the beet family and is high in oxalic acid. We limit the intake of these on our Rocky Mtn Homestead...
