This is the eight video of a series on Multicast VPNs (MVPN) and their implementation on both IOS and IOS-XR routers with a focus on CCIE candidate requirements.

In this video, we verify a functioning MVPN in the SP core based on Default MDT-mLDP (Rosen-mLDP/Profile 1) with MPLS as the core multicast transport on both IOS and XR routers.

mLDP MP2MP based verification are performed on the following:

1. Ingress LSRs (PE routers)
2. Transit LSRs (P routers)
3. Root LSR (P or PE router)

Additionally, the concepts of MP2MP Root and Opaque value are verified in depth with emphasis on how to pick the Root and how a VPN ID manifests itself in the LDP MP2MP Opaque Value. Furthermore, it is demonstrated how Cisco IOS and XR routers decipher this MDT Opaque Value.

Label exchange is for both Upstream and Downstream mLDP MP2MP FECs is covered in detail on all routers with an emphasis on mLDP loop protection in the data plane with a clever use of unique labels and unique forwarding states associated with those labels.

26:50, isn't that any data that is received in Lspvif0 will be forwarded to Gi2.422. The traffic that we receive on Lmdt will go to customer (VRF) network. Once we receive data a (S, G) entry will be created with the incoming interface and outgoing interface(s) including or not (depends on the incoming interface) Gi2.422/Lspviff0

Hello Sir, Thanks for this great MVPN video series, I am looking for definition of Partitioned MDT, is it similar to data mdt ? can Partitioned mdt exist in parallel with Default mdt ? Thanks.

R0(leaf) R1, R2, R3 are part of MP2MP LSP and R4 is the root, if we take R2 for exemple it will generate two local labels one will be signaled to "the upstream" R3 and the other will be signaled to R1 as a reaction of its downstream FEC signaling and the two labels must be different .... is it right my interpretation ??
