Anyone that says tariffs don’t increase costs to consumers needs to stop talking and open a damn book.

So many comments here from people who clearly have no clue what tariffs are or what they do to an economy, and are just willing to take Trump’s word for it. Moreover, so many seem to be terribly threatened by the audacity of a foreigner to ask these legitimate questions in an interview that Trump himself agreed to. Tough interviews are part of the job, people, and if he can’t deal with them he doesn’t deserve the office.

You idiots seem to forget that he had to bail out farmers with his last tariffs.

Increasing tariff while it might protect producers in US it severely harms the mass consumers. If production is only in the US this means that these companies have less competition against foreign companies hence they will be able to set higher prices. And for the consumers since they dont have as many options as before they will be forced to buy at higher prices. And if tariffs set to bring jobs back to the US. What about the 40 MILLION jobs that will be lost because of tariff.

Why is a British person interviewing/interrogating an American presidential candidate? Please stay in your lane and don’t try to sway our election.

Here’s an ABC on tariffs folks. When we put tariffs on cars we import our trade partners also put counter tariffs on things we export overseas. So our products become also uncompetitive. If we can’t sell our products overseas then we have to make less. Making less means we don’t need to employ as many workers (job loses). Products we make and sell only here all of a sudden will be more expensive (due to higher labour and part cost plus low volumes). This makes these local companies less profitable. What happens to less profitable businesses? 😮

High tariffs are complimentary. Everynody loses in a tariff war. There's never a clear winner.

This Brit couldn’t care less about Americans losing their jobs. They’re not saying anything about the enormous tariff China have put on their imports from the US and other countries to bring jobs there.

Clear and on point.
Can Kamala be this concise? "I grew up in a middle-class family 🎶 " 😔

I worked in a factory impacted by the Steel tariffs. Net result was that we had to buy American steel but the steel industry wasn’t ready for such a massive influx of customers so the supply was down and demand up netting way more expensive products for the customer.

That’s how tariffs work for businesses. It forces a smaller company to rapidly expand which strains it and can force them to grow too fast meaning a shut down (like the rust belt in general). Slapping tariffs randomly on things isn’t smart and only ends up hurting everyone involved minus a small group of people.

There is near unanimous consensus among economists that tariffs are self-defeating and have a negative effect on economic growth and economic welfare.
