Having lived through a catastrophe I've found that people become infinitely more helpful and kind the longer it goes. We help each other.

The “72 hours until animal” countdown reminds me of the Shopping Cart Test. You know the people that don’t put the cart back are gonna be the first to go into “animal style.”

research from actual catastrophes show that people in general will help each other and share their last meal with a stranger. Only rich people believe people will turn into monsters, because that's what they would do. Poor people know they need each other.

72 hours till animal, and yet in most catastrophes we see again and again how people go out of there way to help each other. It just don't make for good tv.

In a post apocalyptic world, just like in any other society, it is those who organize and cooperate who will survive. Isolated preppers will be easy targets for well organized groups.

Know a friend of a friend who builds bunkers. He says most bunkers won't survive in any long term catastrophe as food and energy resources/reserves aren't really considered. Short term maybe, like if you're trying to ride out a tornado or 1-2 nights of looting and anarchy.

Community is the greatest protection from disaster.

I think it goes without saying that Americans are exceptionally good at profiting from paranoia. Anyways I have a hunch that none of these preppers have ever went out of their cities, bc people living in self-sufficient villages are pretty common here. Granted I'm coming from a 3rd world country in SEA where grid or Internet connectivity may be rare in parts, but I've heard people in the European hinterlands also do the same. It's normal for people to care for each other, to live off the land and share. We are social animals, we are not out for blood all the time.

A bunker would only work if you were already inside it when the siht hits the fan.

"72 hours from animal" is a harrowing phrase, but I don't believe for the general population. It sounds too much like a novelization or Televisionification of reality

That said animals run I pac’s to survive so being isolated and you get hurt or sick seams stupid waste to me

The bunkers settlement looks like a target to fool enemy satellite intelligence that they are storing ammunition or other equipment there, so this couldn't be that safe

I'm dwarf pilled, the idea of a bunker, an underground shelter, sounds really comfy even without any apocalypse.

The only people worried about people turning on them like that are people who legit would turn on people.

Part of the reason why billionaires love the idea. They know they wouldn't be powerful in a catastrophic situation and thus would rather hide away than admit defeat.

Here in Switzerland, we have a bunker space for everyone (including tourists). Almost every house has one.

“A Paradise Built in Hell” Reviews the psychological effects of catastrophe: the OPPOSITE of bunkers and violence towards eachother. All the pretense goes away any people will lift eachother up

I love how people have such a rosy outlook on life. When a team looses a major games and the city burns, you think those people will be helping you out in a disaster? I think most people would be helpful, but I also think there is a large enough group of people who would think otherwise. I would prefer my whole house to be earthsheltered just for the energy savings.

A lot of preppers are just desperately trying to justify their own shitty attitudes and selfish tendencies

Actual disasters happen in real life all the time, and while it brings out the worst in some people a ton of other people work really hard to come together and help each other (and even animals) survive and get to safety
