Doomsday prepping has been around since prehistoric mammalian creatures stuffed some extra nuts into a tree to survive the winter…

Humans and ESPECIALLY American humans became particularly fond planning for the end of the world during the Cold War when nuclear Armageddon was a very real possibility.

Ever since, it has become something of a utilitarian hobby for millions of people spawning a multi-BILLION dollar industry selling bunkers, ration kits, bug out bags and hunting supplies.

The demand has grown so quickly that top of the line air filtration systems have become collectors’ items because there simply aren’t enough for everybody who wants them.

What is interesting (or maybe a little bit concerning) is the particular group that is planning for the end of the world in higher numbers than basically anybody else… billionaires…

In a game of Survival of the richest, people like Zuckerberg, Peter Theil, Sam Altman and the former CEO of Reddit have all reportedly invested tens of millions of dollars in lavish accommodation to wait out the end times…

These are just the ones we know about, in a game where discretion is obviously a big advantage.

So why the fuck has there been such a boom in doomsday bunkers for billionaires? And is this all… just… really stupid… ?

Well it’s time to learn How Money Works to find out why some of the world's wealthiest people… are actually looking forward to the end of the world as they know it.

Assuming you had 24 hour's notice, your pilot was cool leaving their family behind, that GPS was not turned off or encoded, that the ATC was operating, that the government had not locked the skies, that your jet was fueled and current to fly, that the airports on each end were usable, that hordes had not descended on the airports, that roads were open or your chopper was available, or.... you could then reach your bunker to deal with all the problems that others have listed.

The best part of the techbros seeking answers was when they were asked how they were going to get to their bunkers. PJ's, of course, they said. Were any of them, the techbros, pilots? They said no, and then they were asked, then why would their pilots abandon their families to fly you to safety? Which meant they would have to take them, too.

The funniest part of this to me, is during the lockdowns of 2020, the wealthiest people couldn’t bear to follow guidelines and disrupt their lifestyles in even the smallest ways. They will last about 2 days in their bunkers before going crazy or offing themselves. Seems it would be much wiser to use your wealth to make sure the apocalypse does not happen, and build up as much goodwill with as many people as possible now…. Better path to long term survival imo….

"Bought a doomsday bunker for the apocalypse... now stuck with canned beans and no Wi-Fi. Guess the world's end wasn't the worst part!"

Being a billionaire does not mean having good foresight. These complexes are useless without significant amounts of skilled, technical labor as well as security expertise. What'd most likely happen is that, eventually, insiders in their staff would either demote, imprison, or even eliminate the person funding them when money became worthless, so they could make better use of their assets. Even if society was reestablished, many people are "disappeared" during lawless periods... if the fall of the USSR or Serbia were any good modern indicators.

I remember watching a video by a Survivalist consultant who was ex-military and fought in the Middle East, and one of his biggest points of advice was: DO NOT DITCH YOUR COMMUNITY AND BUG OUT. And stressed that a big part of survival was working together as teams because humans are social creatures. So, yeah.

If you want proof that billionaires are not smart, it's that any of them had the gall to say out loud "maybe I could put shock collars on my team of special forces veterans."

If I'm some guy who spent 15 years in Afghanistan, Iraq, and lots of other places that weren't in the news, talk of shock collars would move up my plans from taking your bunker when the worst happens, to doing it now before you try to implement any plan.

I lost it at the notion they wanted to put shock collars on their secuirty staff.

These people are absolute god damn monsters.

I think one of the reasons that billionaires want so many bunkers is because they are aware on some level that if society collapses they would be powerless and are terrified of that reality.

These billionaires are basically building military installations for free. I feel very confident that all of the states where these bunkers are located have classified plans to requisition these bunkers for national defense during an emergency.

These billionaires want to restore feudalism, which requires that every king has his castle. Fortunately old Mr. Death doesn't take bribes and this too shall pass.

Given how billionaires reacted during the pandemic, I don't think they even want the end of the world to come about.
Half of them handwaved it away as "not a big deal" while the other half started investing in PPE and vaccines to make a quick profit.
They want to keep going so long as there's even a single dollar left to make.
