Not so fun fact:

The 2016's Clown Sightings had a twist in Brazil; a lot of muggers used this "craze" to their advantage, they dressed up as clowns to rob people. You never knew if one was going to pull some funny joke or a gun on you, it was pretty much a clown roulette.

From my understanding, the Mayan calendar did legitimately end in 2012. The hoax part was just people thinking the Mayans could see the future and that meant the world was going to end. When they really just had no need for a calendar that goes on for many centuries.

the way i remembered the whole clown thing was that the sightings started dying down after someone dressed up as batman and started chasing their local roaming clown. i just assumed they figured the jig was up, what with their natural predator coming in

i always wondered why i’ve never seen “the man” in my dreams, i always thought i was just being left out but then i found out it was a hoax and it all made sense

One disturbing hoax that came to my mind while watching was a website about “bonsai kittens.” Essentially the idea was that they’d place kitten into a very small jar while it was still tiny, so that it would grow to fill the jar. There were also care instructions and whatnot.

Three things gave it away as a hoax and not some sick real practice. One, no contact or purchasing info. Two, although there were a couple photos of kittens pressed against glass, they were extreme closeups and could have just as easily been photos of a kitten in an open jar. And three: no way would an animal survive this kind of treatment, despite the website’s claims that they could live for years like that.

Obviously a hoax, but still very disturbing.

I think my favorite fake celeb death response was when the kid who played Carl in The Walking Dead responded to an article saying he'd died by saying something like "Damn, I wish lol"
