✵ What's Every US State's Tallest Building?

✵ America has urbanized at a rapid and extreme rate, with cities growing outwards and upwards depending on the economy of that area and the density of the city. This has allowed for some of the largest cities in the country to create massive central business districts, or downtowns, with some of the nations tallest buildings. Theres alot that goes into why this happens, especially economic factors, so today I wanted to get into this topic and talk about each states tallest building, progressively getting taller and taller until we reach the tallest in the entire nation. So watch this video if you want to see where you states tallest building ranks.

At #38 you didn’t mention how tall the Albuquerque Plaza was in New Mexico it’s 351 ft. if anyone is interested.

Even when Sears as a company officially no longer exists, it will still be Sears Tower.

If you are interested One World Trade Center is 1, 776 feet because it is a nod to the year 1776; when the USA declared independence from Great Britain.
The proposed Legends Tower in OKC would have been 1, 907 feet; that is a nod to the year 1907 when Oklahoma became a state.

A lot of cities like Salt Lake City and Las Vegas have nearby air force bases that restrict height

I think OKC should try adding more 400-700 ft buildings first to flush out the skyline before they drop out a near supertall.

Sears Tower has a higher occupied floor than One World Trade but top of One World Trade is considered an architectural spire so it counts towards the height while the antenna on top of Sears Tower doesn't.

I didnt realize the Key Tower was so tall. Way to go Cleveland you made the top ten and its not a worst list.

i think okc is trying to pull what dubai did about two decades ago and diversify its economy before the oil industry inevitably runs out of resources. people go to dubai to see crazy architecture all the time, so why not make okc america's dubai?

Miami has a 1040' super-tall under construction that will put Florida in 5th place when it's topped off, and that height won't be exaggerated by decorative spires as developers maximize the sellable height that the FAA will allow given downtown's proximity to MIA.

Austin is about to take top honors for Texas with the construction of Waterline at 1021 feet

It's still the Sears Tower to me when it became taller than the WTC in the 1970s!

Mutual of Omaha is building their new headquarters and it will replace the First national bank tower as the tallest building in Omaha in 2026. It will be 677 feet upon completion, about 40 feet taller.

Thank you for calling 7:44 the “John Hancock Tower” and not “One Clarendon” that it was changed to a few years ago!

6:16- It may be officially called the AT&T Building but most Nashvillians call it 'The Batman Building'! LOL

I've mentioned that LA has a small skyline for its size due to urban sprawl and how you couldn't build really tall buildings there until the 70s. Look at pics of LA in the 70s and 80s.

On #32, there's a very interesting reason for this. Basically due to how close Sky Harbor is to downtown Phoenix (about 3-4 miles away), building height there is limited by the FAA. And outside of Downtown, there are very few spots where buildings can exceed 3 stories tall (and even in most of them, there's no way a skyscraper would be allowed). If a developer were to build a building taller than Chase Tower, they would have to build it right on Central Avenue, between the I-10 and Camelback Rd (and all of that corridor is built out and would be insanely expensive just to acquire the land for)

I wouldn’t even be mad if Oklahoma City had the tallest building in the country. New York City has everything someone else can have some.

Another great video. This one triggered a memory of a long ago event. I grew up in FDL, WI. Our grade school went on a road trip, via a rented bus, to the big city, Chicago. Besides visiting the then-named Chicago Museum Of Natural History, we went to the nearly new, and very tall, Prudential building, and to its observatory.
An aside. The trip took place in early Spring. I remember when we left the school grounds, the trees were still bare. When we reached Milwaukee, the trees were budding out. And when we arrived in Chicago, the leaves were out. I was amazed how much a difference that 150 miles south made.

My guess is you might get some flack from Chicago for calling it Willis Tower. I understand they still call it Sears Tower.

11:16 the New York building's height includes the spire on top. Its 1, 368 ft tall without the spire.
