compressors on kicks and other channels help cut out small differentiations between each channel and small segments of the wave that ring out by cutting off the top end, giving you a flattened max volume that doesn't have too much overhead. Works great for vocal tracks and whatnot too

Lmao love how he throws on the Sausage Fattener just to show us his favorite plugin, then says it wouldn't really work well with kicks

with the transiant plugin, ure making hitting the kick at " 18 ", isn't that too much ? i usually do mine at 6 maximum

lmao 5:52am... though it's the perfect time to be doing shit like this cuz there's no traffic or other sounds to get in the way of the perfect sound.

Sir, there are not enough tutorials dealing with the nitty gritty of drum synthesis, so I thank you for taking the time to make such a detailed and informative video!

Yeah. I copy/paste and manually place every single hit. And whether people notice it or not, there are tiny variations all over my songs. But also, I find it's just easier for mixing. I group all of my cymbals together, toms, percussion, etc. Especially when layering samples, you can go back and adjust individual tracks later.

I hardly doubt I can give away the knowledge attained by a 4 year degree in a 12 minute video lol - but to answer your question, I just like to help people in an attempt to fill the world with better music. I didn't learn any of this in school either.

I only respond like a douche to questions that can easily be googled in less than 2 seconds. Anyone that finds a tutorial about layering drum samples is surely capable of googling "vengeance sample pack"

probably dude. I'm one of the gassiest people ever. I was making a new tutorial the other day and ripped like 5 massive chainsaw farts. Maybe I'll do a tutorial on how to make REAL bass drops.

@OceanWushi layering and compression is pretty common knowledge that i learned from reading forums, but i try to just experiment with lots of different plug-ins to enhance the sound and attack

i mean, they don't teach you how to use massive and layer drum samples in any class, but there are some really good audio engineering classes and professors there

Absolutely, but you always want some high end in there for the punch, especially since so many people listen to music on laptop speakers these days...

Columbia College in downtown Chicago, but I didn't learn all about engineering in class. Learned a lot online and reading interviews from other artists.

Not quite... the audible human frequency threshold is 20hz-20khz. A filter and boost around 3.5k is usually what I do as well.

@DigitalContentment never. i like placing my samples by hand and i think about where every single hit goes in every bar.

I'm not familiar with a 128 rack... There's no bussing in Ableton though, just grouping and return tracks.

i was under the impression that you were supposed to take out the bass frequencies of your drums (kicks) so that you can leave room for the actual bass? at least for dub step.

I already did. Watch my video titled "Making your own trasitions/white noise effects."
