My parents are some of the richest people at Harvard. They just might be rich in a different sense of the word than you were thinking. They've raised me to value things like love, relationships, family over things like money.

Yeah sure I guess our parents were important but lets be honest,
I’m the real reason you turned out okay

Best clickbait ever. Thats actually "clickbait" that I love and is really reasonable, well done John, well done! Parenting is such a complex topic, I really bow down to every single good parent out there. Love you Moms and Pops!

This is beautiful but also makes me kinda depressed. My parent's weren't monetarily rich either, but they also never gave an upbringing full of "cultural" experiences. My childhood memories are full of mundanity, of sitting in front of the tv, eating junk food and waiting for my parents to come home from work. That's not my parents fault I guess, they were working so hard to put a roof over my head. But I guess videos like this do inspire me to make sure I give my children an upbringing they deserve. Regardless of money I think the most important thing in life is to make sure you're actually living, rather than surviving.

You had a stable, enriching upbringing with married parents. Literally invaluable.

As someone who used to be good friends with your older brother, your parents always stood out to me. Not only did they care for their own family but they also reached out and cared for me, and many other friends of their children. They were both wonderful role models and I hope to grow up to be a father like your dad. Awesome to see you recognize the wealth they bring to you and the rest of your siblings. Keep it up man!

My parents didn’t save a penny for my education and my mom tried to get me to drop out of college. She told me I’d end up homeless. I’m now working on my second Masters...

I'm blushing and slightly choked up. But the thing is this: John and his siblings are so easy to love. I think about the part toward the end of Charlotte's Web where Charlotte is handing off her egg sac, knowing she's about to die. She says of it, "This egg sac is my 'magnum opus'...my great work, the finest thing I have ever made." And that's true. PS You do still have to do some chores, buddy. Sorry.

Your parents are one of a kind. very intelligent people who decided to raise an amazing family rather than pursue fortune. I always told myself deep down that i don't care about money as long as me and my loved ones are happy. I beat myself up because i don't like my current situation and i am not sure what my next move is. but i do know i want two things out of life, to help others, and to experience life with loved ones.

My mother passed away on 25th June 2017. I wish to replace all of my money. Just for 1 minute see her and say goodbye.

Honestly it's hard for someone like me, whose parents never showed any kind of supporting or any love, to understand what you mean, especially the money part. But yeah you're lucky to have such a parents.

So many immature people in the comments. Life isn't fair. Somebody always has more or less than you. Be grateful for what you do have. Stop comparing to others and strive to reach the level of happiness that this guys family has, if you want a family.

The best video on YouTube. Incredible. There is no word in the English language that can describe how beautiful this video is or how much of a wholesome person you are. You are amazing, John Fish. Continue to make everyone proud.

John thank you so much. After watching your videos I raised my average to 90%, started reading again and go on runs every second day. I really liked that book FLOW that you mentioned, which got me into philosophy books. This likely will not reach you and I could not express how your videos have helped me change in the past 4 months. But I hope you know that your content is enlightening people on the daily, including this video.

watching this the day after my high school graduation, really got me thinking of how blessed as I was, just like you. because I tell you, we had the same childhood. my dad was a teacher, and we would visit libraries, museums, and just spend days together during the summer. and I am glad that we bot got the chance to experience that awesome life.

But I do believe that a lot of the things you said were very true, and I am glad that as high up in college mastery as it goes basically, that you still have this mindset. a lot of high school students think that money is the main reason to get a job, but you said it correct, money is a tool, not a prized possession. and I fully support you in that thinking process.

so glad I found your channel! congrats on making it to Harvard!

John: Yes, you are truly rich-- in family, in love, in experiences, etc. However, you still seem sad, to me, as a person with so much. Happiness is a well balanced life-- having your needs met, your relationships accepted, your accomplishments acknowledged and the faith that you know your purpose in this life. It was hard to hear that you were not pleased with a 4.0 at Harvard. I didn't understand your point, until you explained. There still seems to be something missing. I have to tell you that I subscribed to your channel because I felt I needed you in my life. I'm not really sure how or why but, I do. John, I love you (which I don't say enough) for who you are, for sharing yourself with me and for offering your incites to me, to better my life. You don't know anything about me, but you are making me better each week. Thanks, Mark.
