For context, this is Mondatta, the omnic's sort of spiritual leader and main force pushing to get omnics and humans to live in peace, different from Zenyatta in-game

Amélie Lacroix was the wife of a high level Overwatch agent. She was captured by the villians(Talon). Overwatch finally rescued her but didnt know she had been brainwashed and turned into a sleeper agents. She assassinated her husband in his sleep(Earning the name Widowmaker) then went back to Talon to finish her training including having her emotions removed and pulse slowed which is why she is a purplish tint to her skin.

If i remember correctly, there used to be a voiceline between Genji and Tracer. And it basically implies that Tracer feels so guilty for not taking the bullet, if she took it, Mondatta would have survived. She was struck with survivors guilt.

Also the omnic youre thinking of in Zenyatta! He was this omnics (Mondatta) student

Widowmaker's story is never outright told you so here it is.

Widowmaker's backstory is actually so damn sad and tragic. in her former life, Widowmaker was married to Gérard Lacroix, an Overwatch agent spearheading operations against the Talon terrorist organization. After several unsuccessful attempts to eliminate Gérard, Talon decided to change its focus to his wife, Amélie. Talon operatives kidnapped her and subjected her to an intense program of neural reconditioning. They broke her will, suppressed her personality, and reprogrammed her as a sleeper agent. She was eventually found by Overwatch agents, apparently none the worse for wear, and returned to her normal life.

Two weeks later she killed Gérard in his sleep. (Earning the nickname Widowmaker.)

Her mission complete, Amélie returned to Talon, and they completed the process of turning her into a living weapon.

Zenyatta (the support you were thinking of) and Mondatta (who died in this short) Omnic monks and where friends. Funny enough, their names combine to make the name of an album by the Police (Sting's first band).

When you play Widowmaker on the map King's Row she says "The sight of one of my finest kills... That day i felt alive" referencing the day she killed Mondatta

Honestly before getting Emily and even after, I’ve been such a huge WidowTracer fan cause like, is there not like super great tension between these two?

This will always be one of the coolest cinematics to me. What makes it great is that I'm conflicted and kind of side with Widowmaker and Darkwatch here. Like I get it progress and robots mirroring human intelligence can be a great thing, but bluring the lines between humans and machine isn't a good thing imo. Such a good premise and one that we will have to deal with in the coming future irl.

Fun fact: Tracer'd real name is Lena Oxton and she is a lesbian having a girlfriend called Emily.
