It's crazy that Hitler smiled and waved at him for winning, yet, the US president ignored him. He lived in a land where he had a olympic gold medal but still couldn't get to sit at the front of the bus

Quite a testament not just to his physical ability but also the courage of his character and the mental fortitude to rise to the occasion.

Hitler shook hands of only German athletes on the first day of the Olympics.Unfortunately, President Roosevelt did not receive or contact Jesse Owens, who later commented: “Hitler didn’t snub me—it was our president who snubbed me…The president didn’t even send me a telegram.”17

Imagine that the '36 Olympics committee had selected Spanish Republican Barcelona over the Wehrmacht Berlin

I think it was on QI, but the question was “the leader of which country refused to shake the hand of Jesse Owens?”. My answer was Hitler - but I was wrong. The shocking answer is that Hitler did and it was the President of his own country who refused to shake the hand of Jesse Owens.

Says quite a bit about the Land of the Free.

Funfact: When you see the movie with the Olympiastadion interior, you can still see the bullitholes and so on. On the outside and the entrance of the Olympiastadion you can still see outline of the old Swastika that was on the right pillar. So the movie had no intention to try to give it as good as it could be. Sorry but that is something you see first.

Imagine just going into to compete for your nation in an average Olympics then seeing on the balcony the man who caused millions to die.

not so strangely and disgustingly, while Adolf shook Jessy Owen's Hands and even considered ( offensive, but yeah) Blacks far more honorary than Slavs, Romas and Jews, It was his own countrymen who were offended by a N's ( from Montenegero) success.

And to quote COL. Benjamin Davis in the movie "The Tuskegee Airmen":

...the cheers I heard across this country when Joe Lewis and Jesse Owens *humiliated* Hitler's master race. Didn't just come from proud colored folks; they came from *everyone* How are WE to interpret that?!
