Psychology research can be tricky, because brains are complicated. But does that mean it isn't a science?

I really hope the next video is about the replication crisis in psychology!

Really interesting to see "self reporting" put on a par with measuring something concrete like endorphin levels. It'd be really interesting to see a video on the value and issues surrounding self reporting as a methodological tool for psychology.

psychology is a science only when it reaches its conclusions thanks to neurology, when it applies sociology it can be descriptive (with limitations) at best, but not scientific within the standards of the natural sciences.

As a psychology major, I'll drop my two cents here. In my university, it's under the School of Social Sciences. The hardest part about answering the question "Is Psychology A Science?" is that there are numerous approaches to psychology - all of which are entirely different from each other.

For instance, Psychodynamics (Freud, Adler, etc.) barely has any empirical evidence let alone scientific explanations; it is more philosophical in nature.
Cognitive and Behaviorist (Skinner, Bandura, etc.) approaches are still made up of abstract concepts but are based on experimentation and observed empirical evidence.
Physiological Psychology (behavioral neuroscience), is probably the most scientific you could get with psychology; it studies emotions, intelligence, abilities, internal states, etc. in the lens of the nervous system.

In my opinion, it is a social science, but is a collection of scientific and philosophical concepts, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Psychology has different "currents". Some use scientific methodology (behaviorism, neuropsychology) but others rarely do (psychoanalysis).
There is a huge difference between Skinner and Freud.

At the 1:46 point, I'm pausing to emphasize this point. A _testable_ hypothesis means a hypothesis that is *verifiable if true* _and_ *falsifiable if false.* This means that you have to be able to brainstorm, beforehand, about which observable manifestations should exist in _both_ cases, and then you should be able to check for both, and if _both_ are observable, then your conclusions are not useful.

As a person with a psych degree, I appreciate this first video very much. Something important to show a lot of people what they will be getting into when they start psych (I found a lot of people did not expect the stats or so much science of it and dropped out pretty quickly or changed degrees....)

3:54 Yep; I was really impressed how much time was spent on the importance of critical thinking, the scientific method, objective evidence, understanding bias (including in oneself), and of course, pseudoscience, among other things, in my second intro psych course a couple years ago. I was in a different major at the time, but am in psych now. Many logical fallacies were covered, and everyone was shown how to interrogate claims/spot pseudoscience pretty damn well, for example.

I am incredibly incredibly excited for this channel. As a budding student of cultural psychology, my stake in the clear communication of this science could not be greater. Thank you so much for producing this work!

From brief SciShow coverage to CrashCourse Psychology lectures... and now this. Thank you thank you!

I would love to offer a hand at any research/writing needs if there's need!

How it is possible to said so many word to mean nothing.
Psicology is not a science, perhaps a pseudoscience.
