When people heard Metallica’s Black Album, which was released on August 12, 1991, the positive public feedback was overwhelming. For many fans worldwide, a focal point was the uniquely large, daring, and groundbreaking drum sound. Its heartbeat was a snare that helped drive the songs with weight and verve, and the fans responded in their millions to ensure that The Black Album would leave an indelible mark on rock music.

As a tribute to this special and distinctive sound approach, and commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Metallica’s Black Album, this is the Lars Ulrich Limited Edition Signature Black Album Snare Drum. With only 300 available worldwide, the drum features an all Matte Black finish, 3mm Diamond Plated Steel Shell, and specially designed Black Album badge. TAMA is proud to celebrate its long and storied history with Lars Ulrich, and to honor the Black Album’s legacy with this unique and special drum.

Thank you Lars and Tama drums. The drumming fit the music perfect. I enjoy Metallica and the music. I don't care if he is the best drummer or not. Who the music. I'm a metalhead for life. Lars beats the drums like they owe him money. See ya at the stage.

Lars's got the long hair, probably means they're waste deep in making the new record

This is a commemorative piece. It's not meant to say, "This is a replica of the snare Lars used on the Black Album." I can't find pricing, but I'd guess it's in the $1, 200-$1, 500 range. Remember, the drums on the Black Album were EQ'd to the hilt.

I would love to see them re-release the white and black Artstar kit from back then. 24" kicks, 4 up 2 down massive toms. That thing was a beast.

For all the comments saying he used the Tama bell brass it was actually the zildjian anniversary bell brass snare. I have the extended version of the making of the record and have seen it in the video several times... Also to get nerdy he used Gretsch kickdrums and Toms and a set of Sabian HH14 rock hats and the rest were Zildjian. Heads were remo clear pinstripes with duct tape and tissues used for muffling and a reverse black. coated snare head. Sticks at the time were regal tip with tennis racket tape used for grip. Him and Bob even painted the room with specific paint to give it a specific slap back reverb type of sound.

Nothing about the snare's performance and tonal characteristics just "thank you for supporting tama, metallica and the black album"

Lars was actually going to play it for the promo ad but after 50 failed takes they went "fuck it".

My man! The most ifluential metal drummer of all time! He may not be the most technically proficient or the fastest but Lars plays big fat grooves for metal music like none other! That is indeed a beastly black metal snare drum! Thank you Tama and Lars for your years of great products and music! Cheers from Thunder Bay!

I can't blame Tama for not wanting Lars to play a demo on his snare

“What I love about the snare sound on the black album is that.., , , , it’s not the St Anger snare sound.” Just joking there Lars!

I don’t think I could ever trust a snare with Lars’ name on it
