When I was like 13 I remember calling my neighbor Joe who worked at the local music shop. I asked him how much for Lar's kit. He was like "what?" "I said the big white one, I want one just like it" He replied, that's custom and would prolly cost 20 grand to put together.

I think it's fair for fans to be critical of Lars's drum skill deterioration over the last 25 years.

Have a look at Charlie here. Similar age to Lars, similarly active throughout their respective careers. Charlie has maintained his chops through sustained dedication to his craft. Lars on the other hand has clearly made a conscious decision to step away from continuous improvement in the early 2000's, for whatever reason.

I first heard Diamondhead 15 years ago from a record collector friend. You can really hear how influential they were to Metallica through Hetfield and Hammetts guitar playing. Same thing for Holocaust, " Nightcomers " LP.
