I don't think it was a good essay. The only Tufts specific thing was the name of the club. The rest of the essay could have easily been for Princeton, MIT, Caltech or any other school known for its engineering department and undergraduate research. In my opinion you should highlight as many Tufts specific things as possible. You want to talk about research, mention a professor, a lab, a program. Mention a course. Mention something iconic for the school. Columbia has the Core Curriculum and NY. Yale has the college residential system. Cornell has the most beautiful campus in the country. Dartmouth is known for surrounding scenery and nature, skiing and hiking, strong alumni community and for its Greek life. It doesn't matter what you write about, as long as it is something specific about the school. Obviously it needs to be accompanied by some generic "diverse and collaborative community", "academic excellence" and "opportunity to achieve my dreams" type of bullsh*t. But the strong point of the essay must be a few specific things, motivated by this bs.

he is not showing he will be a leader and innovator on campus. he is just telling. activities, achievements and recommendations are proofs.
