For the first time, primary school children in Algeria are studying English as a foreign language alongside French as the new academic year gets underway. For some, the move is a symbolic shift away from the influence of the country’s former colonial ruler.

Even in france they are learning english in schools. They know they need english for internationally not french. So Africa must introduce english to weaken french and promote African languages

The next step, algeria must introduced english as the language of learning in primary and high school while promoting native languages and remove french totally from algeria. Other African countries must also remove french

Algerians can indeed find more opportunities abroad or at home (not just economically but culturally as well) if they can speak and read English better. I felt that the English-speaking world knows so little about Algeria

English and French are both colonial languages, the only difference is that Britain and the U.S. weren't directly involved in Algeria's colonization (but they are still co-conspirators).

French language was dead long time ago, part from France, part of Belgium, Quebec in Canada and ex french colonies, no one use it or even need it,
I think, the decision of starting to teach English instead of french language is long due, and as an Algerian I am very happy it finally happened .

"French is the colonial language so we want English instead"

Should someone tell him?

Ironic since English is also a colonial language as far as Africa is concerned. Oh well

Nothing to fear, always good to learn as many languages as possible. Children’s brains are sponges so exposure to a new language is great.

They’re better off moving away from that rubbish language.

let me get this straight the french invaded Algeria massacred and raped, then built a civilisation upon a people who's identity and morals are taken away and transformed into something else is scary to me, and i am very grateful for myself and my people for not have to go through such a calamity. alhamdullah
