Hmmm, food for thought. I thought I wanted a Japanese handle for a petty, but you made a compelling argument for the western handle. I wish I had the opportunity to try out several knives over a few days so I could evaluate how much I get out of them.

I love wa-handles but on a petty it must be a western handle, works so much better for in-hand use.

My favorite is the Takamura R2 Migaki. Mind blowing performance and affordable.
