He was an egomaniac who sent his command to fight in some useless battles just so he could be photographed walking ashore in the Philippines, to complete his “I SHALL RETURN” promise. Ask the soldiers who fought on Peleliu from September to November 1944. Highest amphibious death toll of the war. 1800 KIA and 8, 000 wounded. FOR NOTHING

He also attacked our WW1 vets with tanks in Washington -- the starving bonus army

One thing people forget. He was following orders to abandon the Philippines. He wanted the quickest way. To get back to the Philippines. And don't get started on the lack of supplies.

He just basically like Churchill. Egomaniac, charisma and always at right place and right time. Never visit combat area and glory seeker

WW1 veterans hated him. That is a whole other story.

The United States military was also at its weakest point during that period. The US military was downsizing and the federal government was in the death throes of a depression and military spending wasn’t a priority. Not to mention we hadn’t been in combat for around 24ish years. So not only were the troops under supplied, they were green. Once the USA ramped up war production and we learned from the losses we suffered. The tides of war swung back into our favor due to great leaders like him. We defeated Japan on level ground more than once. This video is a terrible example of how rhetoric can be used to sway people who don’t know the truth.

He was too old by then. Past his prime. Just a thought.

Disobeyed orders before Pearl Harbour, had a nervous breakdown after Pearl Harbour, Made bad decisions during Defence of the Phillipines, and viciously passed the buck and got his Air and Naval commanders crucified. Lost all his air due to indecision. Guy was a Buffoon with a ridiculous pipe. Got lucky (sic) in Korea. absolutely useless.

Totally agree; he was more of a self-promoter & egomaniac than a strategist or tactician. Chester Nimitz, Ray Spruance and Bill Halsey were the ones who won the Pacific War…..

He really showed his incompetence in Korea
