Over a year ago, one of the reasons I had to break down and buy a Windows laptop and put Linux on it myself was because _NONE_ of the Linux hardware guys were offering AMD options in their machines. All Intel all the time, no ifs, ands, or buts. It was infuriating.

I hate that it's only changing now that I don't need a new laptop (but I would love to have that new Ryzen 4000 APU), but I am happy it's finally changing!

I've been using Fedora in a Lenovo 5 with a 4500u since April. Since June that everything works perfectly. Trackpad, FN keys, brightness, etc. Really happy

I'd absolutely love that laptop as a long time KDE fan, going back to the old Mandrake days, but that price + shipping would equal nearly $1800CDN. Ouch, but so damn tempting!

It is a miracle! They actually use faster RAM for Ryzen. Most OEM's don't so kudos to them.

Looks great.

Also saw Tuxedo Pulse 15 with a couple Ryzen processor options. Prices seem to be slightly less and extra year if warranty as you have covered previously.

So glad you are healthy and recovering. Here’s to your health!!!

All good!. Thanks for the post. Slimbook is looking like my next purchase with Linux Mint installed.

It would be great to see some contrasting between Kernel 5.7 and before on Renoir to Kernel 5.8. There are so many important Zen 2 enhancements that arrived with 5.8 it's really worth examining.

It is really hard to trust a website of a tech company that doesn’t support mobile devices...

Hey, thanks for the breakdown!

An aspect that you didn't talk about: there's now another manufacturer who produces modern, powerful, well-built and well-rounded Linux laptops! Yes, they've existed before, but I'm talking about options available now, plus, it's a contination of a line from the past, contributing to the stability of the Linux laptops market itself.

Personally I'm a bit new to Linux - I switched over 2 months ago or so, and I use KDE and *absolutely love it*. Great hardware that comes with built-in, optimized great software - now that's a competitor to Windows and MacOS laptops, which contributes to Linux becoming a more and more competitive choice, and this now gives another great option for people who want a Linux laptop.

Great news and great to see the market grow and such great hardware that runs Linux out of the box being offered for purchase :)

The 15-inch version, which costs about $100 more, ships with a battery almost twice as big (11h of real-world battery life), and it has home/end/pg-up/pg-down keys.

I knew you're in Croatia the second the vid started and I could hear the crazy f-ing crickets in the trees. I went camping with me bruv 10 years ago in Croatia, needless to say we couldn't sleep because of the crickets so we just stayed up and drank and ate garlic roasted chicken the whole night XD

I have a MSI Bravo 15 with 16 GB ram and a Ryzen 4800H. The problem I see with it is high power usage and high system temps. I installed Fedora 33 development distro just to get to the latest and greatest s/w and to get a 5.8 kernel hoping they'd added better power handling in the kernel. The lm_sensors temps reported are pretty high but I'm not sure they're believable. What can be done, is the 4800H just going to be a hot processor? I'm surprised because I'd heard the Renoirs were power efficient.
I even used 'powertop" to tweak the tunables to all "good" (via a script that runs at boot time) and set the governor to "powersave". Powersave governor should result in minimum power use but at the cost of lower performance.
