Freedom of Speech is not absolute. If someone uses their freedom of speech to cause harm that right should be taken away. Rights without responsibility can do a tremendous amount of damage.

My mother used this book when I was growing up. They finally got charged with child abuse but the state of Oklahoma dropped all charges.

Here's my suggestion: take this book, and add a prologue and epilogue to it with excerpts from the news reports of the cases in which children were murdered due to the Pearls' teachings. Include memoirs of people who had to grow up under these rules and how it affected their lives. Remove it from the 'Parenting' section and place it next to books like 'Mein Kampf.' Make readers analyze it as a piece of literature that was used to manipulate people to justify acts of cruelty against small children. If we do not learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it.
Also, take the financial rights away from the authors and have all proceeds of the book go to supporting nonprofits that fight abuse.

As a Christian, I am horrified by this. This book should have never been written, and it shouldn't be sold anywhere. I've never understood how some parents could abuse their children. You're supposed to love and protect your children. I just don't get it.

I was in the foster care system and cannot even describe how horrible some of the parents and homes were. I still find myself wondering who and how someone gave these people children, like me, to care for. Which they did nothing of the sort.

I was raised Catholic (church every Sunday, Catholic school, My dad is a member of the Knight of Columbus, and I prayed before I ate every meal). My parents have never hit me, my grandparents have never hit me, my cousins have never been hit(to my knowledge), and I don't think that anyone in my family would ever physically hurt someone, hitting, a child or worse treating a child like some form of property, like a wild animal that needs to be domesticated (only comparison I could think of), is  disgusting and doesn't teach a child anything but how to treat other people like animals. These people disgust me.
