Used to think of this sport as noble. Looks like two drunk neighbors.

I dont have a single clue whats going on and i highly doubt anyone else that isnt invested in fencing either. It would be great to have a commentator on that, this man seems to be very invested in whatever happened.

Explanation from an experienced fencer and referee:
If both Fencers score, the one with the right of attack gets the point. If both have the right of attack, no one gets the point
Stretching arm = attack,
The egyptian stretches his Arm on allez and hits.
The georgian stretches his Arm, pulls it slightly back again, stretches it and hits.
So the georgian loses his right to attack due to pulling his Arm back (interrupting his attack)
Ergo the egyptian gets the Point.
Everything correct.
The behaviour, especially of the georgian fencer is ludicrous. And since he his probably insulting the referee and kind of throwing his mask he could even get a black card (disqualification) for his behaviour

it doesnt matter who hits first.

Actually there is another rule in this sport and according to my friend who know this sport it doesn’t matter who hits first but who attack first and who parry, if you look at the Right fencer (Egypt) he raise his sword to aim first which means he is striking first and therefore the guy to the left (Georgia) must parry which means he is defending like dodging or blocking the attack then strike. But he misses the parry and therefore his hit doesn’t count. And even if did count he would lost his point anyway due to his disrespect against the referee when he aimed his shouting victory at them with anger which the referee could count that as unsportsmanlike and lose the point. Anyway that’s what my friend said, does anyone know if this is true or not?

I don’t know anything about fencing, but these two weirdos make me never want to see it again.

So the concept of fencing is who touches the other first with the sword in the upper body.
There are electronic detectors at the end of each sword which are used to detect when a touch is made. If the decision is super close, they go back to video refereeing and make their decision on the slow motion replay. They play for 15 pts and in the last point, they both touched eachother, that's why the lights lit behind them, so they went back to video to see who touched the other first and they concluded that it was the Egyptian. The Georgian fencer wasn't happy with the decision.

I thought fencing was a sport of gentlemen, they behave like pub-goers.

For anyone wondering, in Sabre, 50% of your points are ref dependent just due to how priority works. Sabrists are not exactly inclined to make their moves very easy to follow as it allows them to dispute calls by saying they looked like they were in priority and moved accordingly.

Combine this with a lot of corruption in the higher levels with refs and players and then you have these reactions. It’s not quite as bad with foil and epee.

The two problematic situations in these Olympics in fencing and judo have the same cause: bad female referees.
