They had a training version of the lunar rover that came with rubber tires and could drive in Earth gravity, I'd say that's the one to replicate.

Off topic, but I just watched Adam's Scabbard build on the Oculus Quest VR app. It was fantastic, and amusingly unsettling at times.

When he started waving the sword around I instinctively moved back, (which of course did no good in a 3DOF video).

Later I almost jumped out of my seat when the spot welder kicked up sparks. :D

I nearly felt like I was in the room with Adam watching the build, but unable to speak, which was surreal and very cool.

And the real time VR interface you use to download and launch the videos is very entertaining.

If you're geeking out on space stuff, I recommend watching Space Brothers (the anime tv series) . It has an amazing behind the scenes-ish look at astronaut selection etc. Engineering of a moon buggy and creative problem solving is part of it.

Great answer. If you do build this, you should do LRV-3 used on Apollo 17. This is the one where Gene Cernan accidentally broke the fender with a hammer, necessitating a repair to be made with EVA maps, tape and clamps -- the ultimate " MacGyver"
