Why Did Delhi Court Summon Youtuber Dhruv Rathee? | Defamation | BJP | Suresh Nakhua

A Delhi court has issued summons to prominent YouTuber Dhruv Rathee in connection with a defamation lawsuit initiated by Suresh Karamshi Nakhua, a spokesperson for the Mumbai unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The summons was issued by District Judge Gunjan Gupta of the Saket Court on July 19.A spokesperson for the Mumbai unit of the BJP Suresh Karamshi Nakhua claimed that Rathee “made bold and unsubstantiated claims” in one of his videos uploaded on his YouTube channel. His lawsuit seeks Rs. 20 lakhs in damages, alleging that Rathee's comments in a video have caused significant harm to his reputation. In the video, Rathee reportedly labeled Nakhua as a ""violent and abusive"" troll, a claim which Nakhua has strongly denied.

The court has not only summoned Rathee but also issued notices to Google LLC and X Corp (formerly known as Twitter) as parties involved in the dissemination of the allegedly defamatory content. The court order includes a notice to Rathee regarding Nakhua’s plea for interim relief, with the next hearing scheduled for August 6, 2024.

I did a search on google about nakhua and found out one interesting episode of his.

I didn't knew who Nakhua was until today. After barely some googling, came accross this story where Nakhua had once posted online posts about BMC workers carrying an alive body to a crematorium, emphasizing that it was "Maha Vasooli Aghadi" govt's fault. Alarmed at the news, soon BMC officials contacted Nakhua and sought further information regarding the exact location of the incidence. But Nakhua then told them that he was not sure and he thought maybe that's the case. BMc then filed a case against Nakhua for which Nakhua had to apologize to BMC for spreading lies, false news and causing defamation to BMC.
