The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in connection with a defamation suit a Gujarat-based non-governmental organisation (NGO) has filed against the United Kingdom (UK)’s national broadcaster over its documentary “India: The Modi Question”.

Does the Indian law permit any NGO to go and file a defamation suit on behalf of an entire nation. Where is the locus standii? How can a High Court act on such a petition and issue notices to the respondent?.Sounds a bit strange. Does the defamation law really apply in this case?

I am not surprised. The rule is that BJP and it's associated organization can do anything. No one will complain. But reverse BJP will make a big deal.
