Aggressive Behaviour In Horses

Aggressive behaviour is a common complaint of horse owners.

Aggression in horses may appear as threats such as ear pinning or kick or bite threats, or it can involve actions such as biting, chasing, kicking or striking. Aggressive behaviour may be directed towards humans or other horses. In rare instances, it may even be self-directed, where the horse bites themselves.

Horses displaying aggressive behaviour are not only potentially dangerous to be around, the behaviour often indicates that the horse is experiencing a high level of stress and unhappiness which should be addressed.

In this #TriageAdvice post, I talk about aggressive behaviour in horses, and the triage advice I give to owners to help them see an immediate reduction in the frequency and/or intensity of aggressive behaviours before we can meet for a consult.

I have a very overly aggressive yearling and he's also aggressive when it comes to food I'm the only one that can go in and feed him but he refuses to respect me in any sense of the way do you know what I can do about this I round pin to him I freaking claim territory from him in the pasture he is a pastor horse and he's only a yearling so he's right now he's 22 months He's going to be 23 months on the 28th of December and he's going to be 2 years old January 28th what advice can you give me because I tried everything practically I even gilded him on November 30th what advice would you be able to give me to change his severely aggressive behavior he sent my mom flying he bucked out her at meal time when we went to feed he has to be separated because the other horses we have are females and he's healing but my mom's also scared to put them with the other horses but he's right next door to them so he gets a socialize with them what would you suggest because round pinning don't work asking him the backup doesn't work because he refuses to do anything but sit down and be aggressive staying around being aggressive all he wants to do is be aggressive
